My favourite Belak moment
Came during the trade deadline one year (I can’t remember which one) and TSN was interviewing him and they asked if he was worried about getting traded. He replied that he wasn’t because he had talked to Pat Quinn and had informed him that if he was traded he would “Come back and shank him during the first game back.” That essentially sealed my man love for him
If you look up "Loyalty" in the dictionary you'll see a picture of a Leafs fan wearing a Todd Gill jeresy looking like he just got punched in the stomach
I remember when Belak was traded, it was the year that Sundin refused to waive his NTC. TSN or someone interviewed Belak and his response to being traded was something like “Well, you know, after they couldn’t trade Mats they had to move on to the next best player on the team and I guess that was me.”

It’s certainly wrong for a reporter to speculate on the cause of death.
Also, there’s generally privacy legislation covering this kind of thing, and for good reason. If his family wants to share the details, that should be up to them, not a columnist at a tabloid.

He’s more or less confirmed that a police officer leaked the info to the paper. Whoever did it is almost certainly breaking the law in doing so, and they should be disciplined for it.

I haven’t been this teary-eyed since the end of Gladiator. Wade Belak was a gem, a true gem. The personality we will remember when so many other players are nought but stat lines on a hockey card.

Wade was loved everywhere
Leaf Nation, sorry for your loss. I had the opportunity to meet Wade about a year and a half ago at the Verizon Center in DC. I was working as a security coordinator for the charter airline that was taking the Predators home after the game. Always been a Caps and Leafs fan, so I was excited to meet Sullivan and Belak. As I’s always heard and seen, Wade was friendly and very funny. I’ve never been happier after meeting a player. We made each other laugh and he just seemed like a great guy who enjoyed life.
I don’t understand and I don’t want to accept it. I see a lot of things in my work, I meet a lot of people and its always just business, just interesting in a detached way. But a felt like a kid again that night meeting Wade, he was such a presence. And I feel like a friend died now, even though it was just a few hours spent together. Obviously, we don’t know the story yet. I just can’t square the idea of him being troubled with the person I saw and talked to. I feel terrible for his family and friends.
RIP Wade.

My most memorable moment of Belak is where he kicked Cam Janssens ass after the last hit on Kaberle earlier in the season. At a time when we had very few players who would stick up for each other…

I don’t have a lot of respect for guys who sit and chirp, and don’t act upon it. I think a good agitator is someone who really gets under your skin and is a good teammate. But, they’re a good person off the ice. I wouldn’t consider Sean Avery a agitator. He’s a sad excuse for someone trying to be something else. Darcy Tucker was great at it, and we respected him.
