The Toronto Maple Leafs hit the ice tonight. Sort of. Oshawa, Ontario is the site of the 2011 Toronto Maple Leafs Rookie Tournament, which will showcase young talent from three NHL clubs (and Ottawa). A few names to focus on include Matt Frattin, Jake Gardiner, and Jesse Blacker. As Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio writes:
First impressions are made on a yearly basis at the annual rookie tournament, which takes place in Oshawa, Ontario this weekend. With an ever-improving pipeline, the showcase - which also includes futures from the Blackhawks, Penguins and Senators - offers Leafs brass their first view of top prospects heading into the 2011-2012 season.
The Leafs games will be available live on Rogers Sportsnet Ontario and on 30 minute tape delay on MapleLeafs.com. Be sure to stop by around 6:30 tonight for the first PPP GDT of the year.

Sportsnet Ontario isn’t showing it where I live (Cobourg). Bunch o’ Douchbags (Rogersm not you all fortunate enough to be able to watch). In other news, I might be going to the game tomorrow and have been happily wearing Leafs jerseys for the last 2 days and will likely continue to do so until Monday.

I grabbed the last 6-pack of brooklyn lager at the LCBO today, but it was actually a 5-pack. I asked the lady at the counter what the deal was, and she said you can actually buy single bottles of any beer they sell, even the ones sold as 6-packs. I had no idea.
I had something really clever to say here. But I forgot.

Is the cost for 1 beer actually 1/6th of a 6 pack or are there volume discounts?

1/6th of a 6 pack. which makes sense to me now, when you bring a 6 pack up they’ll often just pull one bottle out and scan it and then hit x6 on the register.
i’m going to start abusing this immediately, i’m going to buy 15 different beers every time i’m there.

I like to buy 16 tall boys when I am there. I usually buy 2-3 of each individual type. I buy 16 because its the same amount of beer as a 2-4. Last time I did it, it came to $38 and they were some pretty expensive beers (Grolsch, Tuborg, Tiger, Weissenhafer, etc)

I’m not a fan of beer in a can generally, and I find most of those beers taste pretty similar. I’ll sometimes buy some of the eastern european big bottles (Zywiec, Svyturys, etc) but usually only when they don’t have something else I like.
