Not sure. Never heard his name before though. Is he related to Ron Wilson perchance?

It’s some kind of Kessel/Wilson hybrid. I think they’ve hired more than just psychologists.

WHY is he back

Burke wanted half of Schenn’s brother, so he had to stick with Brayden Irwin.

Looks like Schenn lost some weight

Wasn’t he up around 240 lbs last year?

Yeah I believe that’s Friday. Also, is Lombardi included just cause, or will he actually play in preseason games?

Come get your duds in order...

by The Bag on Sep 14, 2011 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions

he hasn’t “failed” a physical yet so he’s technically on the active roster.

by Nigel Cadbury on Sep 14, 2011 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Still unsure. He’s taking part in on-ice skates with the team, but hasn’t actually done any of the training drills, practices, etc. I don’t think.

If he’s ready for pre-season they’ll play him in some games and see how he does. The one thing they keep mentioning is that because of his injury he wasn’t able to push himself as hard from a conditioning perspective and might not be in top form to start the year, which could be as good a reason as any for him to push back his start date until he can be in top form.

Yeah, but doesn't anyone else remember?

I can’t find the link right now, but we all went crazy at the beginning of last season when we heard how much weight Schenn had put on. Crazy in a good way, that is.

So how long before they start sending kids back to

junior?

There have been articles in the Star already about McKegg and Olden working together with Erie… so that’s a bit confusing to me.

And this may have come up in the FTB

but does Bagosian’s 2 year $2.5 mill cap hit have ANY impact on the Schenn negotiation? because frankly I think we want Schenn for more than 2 years, and he’s going to cost us more than $2.5 mill a year.

To me I see Bogosian’s 2.5 and Myers’s 5.5 to fit Schenn nicely in the 3.5 range most people had him, IMHO. Of course term has a impact so it’s hard to guess.

by DoubleDion on Sep 14, 2011 11:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Myers

getting $5.5 is a bit nuts this early. He’s still an RFA, and I have no idea why the Sabres would go and lock him up like this when they have The kid had one really productive season as a rookie, and kinda crashed back to earth last year a bit. 48 and 37 points in his first two years? That doesn’t work out to a $5.5 mill D man for me. Let alone for 6 years.

21 goals and 64 assists over his first two years in 162 games works out to an average of about 10 goals and 32 assists (42 points) in 81 games a year. There are 7 D men that have averaged over 0.5 ppg in their first 2 years in the past decade:

Myers, Phaneuf, Doughty, Whitney, Liles, Pitkanen, and Karlsson. Myers and Doughty are looking at new contracts, Karlsson is still not a free agent yet, but of the others I’d say people feel the Phaneuf deal at $6.5 was a huge overpay (in hindsight), Liles, Pitkanen, and Whitney haven’t ever made $5.5 million in a season. Liles is making $4.2 mill, Pitkanen is making $4.5 mill, and Whitney is making $4 million.

$5.5 mill a year for Myers is too much… he isn’t Chara, Lidstrom, or Weber… he’s not good enough in his own end yet to qualify for that kind of dough.

2-4 years is likely for Schenn and fits Burke's MO

Both Darren Dreger and Mirtle stated they think Bogosian’s deal may directly impact Schenn’s.

Myers’ deal is a bit ridiculous and fits with the “pre-paying for potential”. The justification seems to be that they are buying 2 of his UFA years in the deal.
