Preseason game #2: Flyers at Leafs

The Flyers will visit the ACC tonight, as Blake Kessel and Brayden Schenn get a taste of the big leagues against their far more handsome brothers Phil and Luke.

Chris Johnston gives us a look at tonight's rosters.

Philadelphia Flyers

Goalies: Sergei Bobrovsky, Michael Leighton.

Defensemen: Oskars Bartulis, Andreas Lilja, Matt Walker, Matt Carle, Erik Gustafsson, Oliver Lauridsen, Blake Kessel.

Forwards: Brayden Schenn, Adam Mair, Sean Couturier, Wayne Simmonds, James van Riemsdyk, Ben Holmstrom, Matt Read, Harry Zolnierczyk, Tom Sestito, Zac Rinaldo, Mike Testwuide, Eric Wellwood, Michael Nylander.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Goalies: Mark Owuya, James Reimer.

Defensemen: Luke Schenn, Dion Phaneuf, Jeff Finger, Cody Franson, Jesse Blacker, Simon Gysbers.

Forwards: Tim Connolly, Clarke MacArthur, Joffrey Lupul, Mike Zigomanis, Colton Orr, Joe Colborne, Luca Caputi, Jay Rosehill, Nazem Kadri, Marcel Mueller, Darryl Boyce, Greg Scott, Phil Kessel.

In the AM drills, defensive pairings were Finger-Schenn, Gysbers-Blacker, Franson-Komisarek (all right-shooting defensemen), with Franson and Komisarek doing a rock paper scissors to see who got stuck playing the left side (per Henny and Mirtle). Reimer is expected to play the whole game tonight, opposite one or both of Sergei Bobrovsky and Michael Leighton.

Wilson says the Leafs will be cutting their roster down to about 40 players after scrimmages tomorrow, so some of the younger players will be fighting to dodge the first round of cuts tonight. It'll also be our first look at Tim Connolly in a Leaf uniform; it would be nice for the Lupul-Connolly-Kessel line to show some chemistry tonight, but it's still just pre-season.

Its a lot better during the season… during pre-season it’s free so it’s basically overloaded. Once the season starts the quality and speed improves due to lower traffic.
