No Brotherly Love Tonight
Who: Toronto Maple Leafs / Toronto Marlies vs. Philadelphia Flyers / Adirondack Phantoms
What: Pre-season Game #3 for the Leafs (1-1-0 record)
Where: The Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA
When: 7:00pm - SNET-O (CA), Versus (US), TSN-PH (Philadelphia)
Why: Because both teams still have a lot of rust and dead weight to shake off before they'll be ready for the start of the regular season in 15 days.
Take the jump for a closer look at tonight's rematch that isn't a rematch.
Expected Leafs Lineup:
Forwards - Colby Armstrong, Darryl Boyce, Tyler Bozak, Luca Caputi, Joe Colborne, Jerry D’Amigo, Philippe Dupuis, Matt Frattin, Ryan Hamilton, Nikolai Kulemin, Greg McKegg, Colton Orr, Jay Rosehill
Defense - Keith Aulie, Cody Franson, Jake Gardiner, Carl Gunnarsson, Korbinian Holzer, Mike Komisarek, Juraj Mikus, Luke Schenn
Goalies - Jonas Gustavsson, Ben Scrivens
Note: The Leafs will need to scratch three players from this list to get to the required 18 skaters for the game.
Expected Flyers Lineup:
Forwards - Andreas Nodl, Danny Briere, Jakub Voracek; Scott Hartnell, Claude Giroux, Tomas Hyka; Max Talbot, Brayden Schenn, Matt Read; Jody Shelley, Blair Betts, Ben Holmstrom
Defense - Kimmo Timonen, Erik Gustafsson, Oskars Bartulis, Braydon Coburn, Kevin Marshall, Andrej Meszaros
Goalies - Ilya Bryzgalov (starter),Johan Backlund
Collectively lacking in anything resembling above average hockey skills, tonight's roster is like a Brian Burke wet dream. More truculence than hockey ability, somehow this list still qualifies for the minimum number of NHL veterans, though those "veterans" are nothing more than 3rd-4th line grinders, 3rd pairing defensemen, Luke Schenn and Nikolai Kulemin. What sort of crime is Nikolai Kulemin guilty of to warrant his inclusion in tonight's game? Hopefully for Kulie, Ron Wilson shows mercy and scratches him for the lineup so he can shake his head in shame from the press box instead of the bench.
Last night, despite the 4-0 score, was actually a pretty good outing for the Leafs defense, giving up only 22 shots. We'll see tonight if this squad can perform just as admirably. And they'd better because it looks like from the roster that Wilson is using tonight's game to figure out his #4-7 defensemen as Aulie, Franson, Komisarek, and Gunnarsson are all in the lineup. I'm expecting Juraj Mikus to be the defensive healthy scratch tonight and Korbinian Holzer to be used sparingly as the other 6 are used in a variety of situations to help Wilson's evaluations.
In between the pipes, it's a tryout for the Leafs backup position between Gustavsson and Scrivens. Both were solid Monday night, only giving up a goal a piece. Right now it's Gustavsson's spot to lose. Scrivens will need to put on a show and hope the Monster flounders if he wishes to start up on the big club.
As always, GO LEAFS GO!

Better tell that to Grabovski, Kadri, Gardiner, Blacker, Kulemin and Bozak. I think they missed the memo. We wouldn’t want anybody upsetting our delicate balance of underperformance while still leaving us a shred of hope for future improvement. That balance is pretty much all we have.

Leafs Fan 4 Ever
Hello everyone, my first post here…I’ve been a Leafs fan for very long time….probably since 1974…I’m hoping that the Leafs will become a franchise that stands above all others….a model franchise that sets the example for others to follow…much like another Original Six team, the Detroit Red Wings…I’m tired of people dumping on the Leafs…the Leafs should be the New York Yankees of the NHL……they are the richest franchise in the NHL, but sadly have been known as losers since they last won the cup….it’s time to turn the corner, Toronto and show everyone that the Toronto Maple Leafs mean business when it comes to winning…they will give everything they have to get up to the upper echelon of the NHL and stay there….Make Leafs Nation proud to call you our team!
Welcome to the site. There’s a lot of great content on here, dig through it and you’ll find out some very interesting things about the league and this team.

You discuss this PPP fantasy hockey league a lot. Is there any room?

Hey all I made a fan shot to track bets made around PPP. Please use it to keep track of all of them.

That star article on Turris got me thinking
What are the thoughts on the other top 10 players in that draft now?
Does LA still think Hickey is a top prospect? Does Washington expect Alzner to ever be more than a 5th defenseman? Whats the deal with Hamill?

There are some high hopes for Alzner, I believe Hamil was considered “not gonna happen” when we were tossing around targets for Kaberle, no idea about hickey, but he played his overage junior year and only played 19 games in the 09-10 ahl year. Some obvious ones like Gagner, Voracek, Coture, Shattenkirk (BU alumnus) looks like a good puck moving defenseman, but is behind pietrangelo in that role down in St Louis.

the best players, other than Pat Kane, in that draft are probably Jamie Benn and PK Subban though, both 2nd round or later

A little further down we have Simmonds as well, who’s turned into a fairly strong player.

Couture could be better than Benn still. JVR also.

ah yes, missed Couture

I thought we were just talking about “near turris,” but yeah, at this point it doesn’t seem like it was a bad draft to miss out on (though we didn’t miss out on it for any good reason). I heard that Benn fell because he was also considering pro baseball.

Ohh you meant the first ten players taken, not the ten best out of the entire draft so far?
by Self Destructive Zones on Sep 21, 2011 4:07 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, Cox mentioned the players taken after Turris suggesting it may have been a bit of a “two player draft” with Turris trying to ride the coat tails of Kane and JVR to a higher salary. Then he mentioned the next handful of guys taken and said basically Couture is the only really good one.
I hadn’t hjeard much about a couple of htem for a while so I was curious.
Also I think Sam Gagner could still turn into a 20-25G and 50-60 point player.

Gagner was also crazy rushed

He has been injured but played at an 18 G and 50 or so point pace. Pretty good at his age.

For interests sake
Here is the 2007 draft organized by GP. Didn’t realize Perron was that young. Also St Louis had 3 first round picks all of which look like they’ll be NHLers (Ian Cole, Penner, and Eller)
