Pre-Season Game #6 From Beautiful Kanata, Ontario
Who: Toronto Maple Leafs vs Binghamton Ottawa Senators
What: Pre-season Game #6
Where: Scotiabank Place in Kanata, Ontario; right next to the Kanata Chevy and Mazda dealerships and what appears to be a cornfield.
When: 7:00pm on LeafsTV, or streamed by Leafs TV Interactive
Why: With only two games left in the pre-season and October 6 fast approaching, Ron Wilson needs to settle on a roster for opening night. Tonight's game will probably be the last pre-season game for the handful of bubble players who won't make the cut as it's likely Wilson will suit up his opening night roster as a whole against Detroit in two games over the weekend.
Projected Leafs Roster:
Goalies - James Reimer, Ben Scrivens
Defense - Dion Phaneuf - Carl Gunnarsson; Luke Schenn - John-Michael Liles; Keith Aulie - Cody Franson
Forwards - Clarke MacArthur - Mikhail Grabovski - Nikolai Kulemin, Joffrey Lupul - Nazem Kadri - Phil Kessel, Matt Frattin - Darryl Boyce - Colby Armstrong, Jay Rosehill - Philippe Dupuis - Joey Crabb
Extras: Mike Brown, Tim Connolly, Matthew Lombardi, Colton Orr, Jake Gardiner, Mike Komisarek, and Matt Lashoff.
More after the jump.
Forwards - Greening - Spezza - Filatov; Hoffman - Zibanejad - Butler; Foligno - Regin - Condra; Daugavins - Smith - Neil. (Sylvain St-Laurent)
Defense - Gonchar - Borowiecki; Cowen - Karlsson; Rundblad - Lee. (Scott MacArthur)
Goalies - Robin Lehner, Alex Auld
And no, the Senators don't have a slew of more cuts to make. This is about 95% of their opening night roster, excluding Alfreddson, Da Costa, Phillips, and Anderson. Yikes. I thought the Leafs had it bad.
-----------------------------------------
Like the last two pre-season games before it, tonight's bout serves the purpose of letting Wilson figure out who should stay and who should go before opening night. Or in the case of Mike Komisarek, who has to stay, but who should go. And that, the ability to freely be sent down and called up from the Marlies, may ultimately be the largest factor in finalizing the roster. As Mirtle pointed out in his article last night;
....(of those remaining in camp) only Ben Scrivens, Jake Gardiner, Keith Aulie, Nazem Kadri and Matt Frattin don’t require waivers to play in the AHL this season.
In the case of Aulie, I think he'll be saved by the fact that there are realistically only 7 defensemen fighting for 7 spots, so he'll stick with the team. Nazem Kadri is too freaking good to get sent down, though Matt Lombardi and his possible shift to the wing (Why Wilson? Why?!?) could throw a monkey wrench into the works. So more than likely, it'll be guys like Scrivens, Frattin, Gardiner, Lashoff, Rosehill, and Crabb playing their first games in the Ricoh this year.
As Burke told us last year in horribly edited commericials, "Every Game is a Tryout", tonight's game especially.
GO LEAFS GO!

So in bashing Kanata, m’lady asked if any other NHL teams play outside their city.
the only other teams I could think of were Florida (suburb of Miami) Long Island (suburb of NYC, could be wrong if LI is considered a city), and Phoenix.
Are there more? I confess to not knowing a great deal about most cities themselves and whats considered in the city and “oh come on that’s just too damn far”
Reasining helps me with matrh!
Kanata is part of Ottawa now
If the Leafs played in North York, would they play outside Toronto?
An Ottawa Senators supporter in Toronto, Ontario. I am cool like that.
doesn’t Kanata fall under "oh come on that’s just too damn far"? isn’t that why it’s made fun of?
i guess i should have qualified saying most teams could think of played close to or in downtown
Reasining helps me with matrh!
Technically...
…you’re in Ottawa as soon as you pass through Arnprior (coming from the west)…AND you have to drive another half hour just to get to Scotiabank Place. The beauty of amalgamation. “That’s just too damn far” indeed…

There’s still close to nothing around it for miles. Unless Kanata somehow counts as “something” – which it doesn’t, unless that something is a shopping mall and a lot of crappy suburban box homes.

How would the Florida Panthers play outside their city? Their name is the entire state. They play in Sunrise, FL by the way.
I went to a Leafs game down there during march break, their arena is in the middle of nowhere and a pain in the ass to find

That said I already know who I am voting for, and the leaders debate most likely could not change that. As far as I am concerned all the candidates in this election are pretty bad, and I will be voting for the one I dislike the least.

He had little significance. Most of his voyages are hard to verify and some suggest he might have even fabricated some things. He did probably discover the Amazon river and some parts of southern Brazil. But a cartographer named the land after him and it stuck.

I have one buddy who I say ‘Bryan Murray’ to and he immediately gets this disgusted look on his face.
Love it!

I have 2 habs fan friends. We try to focus on Ottawa when we talk so that we don’t end up squabling. It’s better to focus on mutual hatred.

I just got offered
Teemu Selanne for Michael Grabner in my fantasy league. Selanne will probably put up better numbers this year but this is a dynasty league and he’s probably done after this year, while Grabner is young and will be around for a long time.
Should I deal? I’m thinking no but I’m not sure

That is a no, my good man. Grabner’s long term (read: beyond this season) viability >>> one season of Selanne.

Was thinking the same thing. I need centers anyways

Well I auto-drafted the latter half of my roster so the only other right winger I have on my bench is Chris Neil right now
I’m open to trade Grabner if the right deal comes along, but I don’t think Teemu Selanne is the answer

It's my first fantasy draft ever
What’s wrong with Grabner exactly?

Attention all Leaf fans. Most of you may enjoy this story & find it rather humorous. I attended the game last night with some co-workers as we had a conference in Ottawa. Tickets were free obviously. (Who buys tickets to Senator games anyways, LOL) I was amused to discover a very odd, grotesque looking couple sitting near us acting irate and beligerent. The woman was a 450 lb man beast with a 1980’s perm and a shrieking voice very similar to that of a raptor in Jurassic Park. She was wearing a Senators jersey and the name on the back of the jersey had me in stitches. It read ‘TuffGirl’. Oh but wait it gets better…..the man she was with looked a lot like the Sherminator from American Pie, only with a lot less hair and he was much thinner. I saw he had approximately 6 teeth, all of which were mocha brown and he too was wearing a Sens jersey. The name on the back read ‘Charade’. Too funny. Ah well, good luck this season Leafs. Go WINGS Go….the true Royalty of hockey.
