Classic Toronto Maple Leafs moment
In all honesty, I am not in the mood to look over fights or pick fights this week. I think in respect to those who have lost their lives this summer I am going to take a small break from fight posts.
I think today is a great day to watch a classic Toronto Maple Leafs moment, today is a good day to look back and smile.
Chills after the jump.
Gary Roberts 2002 OT Goal
The above video was game two between Toronto and Ottawa in the second round of the playoffs in 2002.
As said in the video above the Leafs were already down 1-0 in the series and if they dropped game two it would have been extremely tough to come back, even though there is a written rule that Ottawa can never beat Toronto in the playoffs.
Gary Roberts did was Gary Roberts did best and that was score big playoff goals, right off the faceoff he just slide it between Lalime's legs to win the game.
Curtis Joseph was the story for me though in that 3rd overtime frame. Those two saves on Marian Hossa were amazing, especially the 2nd one.
The quote
Now here's Hossa again, all alone, stopped by Joseph, what a save by Curtis Joseph - Bob Cole
Curtis Joseph
Curtis Joseph is now the goaltender coach for the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League.
He was hired by Frontenacs GM Doug Gilmour earlier this summer.
Former Leafs defenceman Todd Gill is the teams new head coach, hired by Gilmour earlier in the summer as well. There is certainly a strong Toronto Maple Leafs connection in Kingston this year.
In relief
My last memory of Curtis Joseph as a Leaf is a good one, when he made his return in 2009 as a backup it didn't matter if he was past his prime or had a goals against average over 3.00. The team wasn't going to make the playoffs regardless and we got to see him back in the blue and white.
Curtis Joseph must have thought is was 2002 that night as he came off the bench late in relief of Martin Gerber and stole the show.
Stop after stop against the Capitals late in regulation, overtime and then the shootout to lead the Maple Leafs to victory.
That's the Curtis Joseph I remember, the one won them so many games over the years.
Even though my username says CrashTheCrease I am no longer apart of that site and no longer endorse or support or have anything to do with it.
I started an MMA and Hockey news site last week called MMA Hockey.
My focus is on that site and building it up like I did the last one, that was part of the reason (along with the Holiday) that I wasn't able to make Yesterday's post.
That maybe the reason I am unable to make up for Yesterday's post tomorrow afternoon.
Next week will be no problem and everything will be back to normal and the Monday/Tuesday posts will be back.

I saw four guys walking by with Wozniewski jerseys at the ACC once. Had to be his family, I told myself. Then some guy in a Wellwood jersey joined their group

Hey Crash, you can email either PPP or Chemmy and submit a name change for your profile.

Ever since David Danforth dissapeared there has been a serious drop in consistency.

If I’m not mistaken a brief Cujo chant went up in the ACC after Overtime in that game against the Caps. What a performance.
Sometimes it seems this cycle never ends, we slide from top to bottom then we turn and climb again.

Soooo much hooking and interference going on there. Glad they got rid of that.
The video definitely makes me miss playoff hockey, though.

Thanks for this.
I really enjoyed watching that OT period all over again. What a sweet time to be a Leaf fan.

Rec’d for AlMo content.
Flagged (but not actually) for no Mats content.
Let the Wookie win.

50+ mins for Mccabe. Such a beast for us back when you could clutch and grab. Getting tired of seeing him get booed when he comes to the ACC. Kinda hope he gets a standing O sometime (not likely). We forgave Tucked after all.

indeed, McCabe was actually still a better player than Tucker was at their “ends” in Toronto, he gets way too much flack, but then scoring on his own net at the height of the hate is seared into Leafs fans minds

I think a big part of it was his contract. People didn’t like him making $7 million because he wasn’t one of the best defenders in the league. If he was making the same amount of money as Kaberle I think he may have remained a Leaf until his contract ran out.

I think another factor was how he left the team, IIRC there was a perception (wrong or right) that he wanted out of town, and Leafs fans aren’t so forgiving about those sorts of things.

nah, the problem was he wouldnt go when we wanted him

I’m pretty sure it was the opposite – fans wanted him gone, but he wanted to stay. I remember crazy speculation like that the Leafs could consider making him a healthy scratch until he agreed to a trade, etc.
