If you’ve been here long enough, you’ll remember when we used to post songs to start the game.
I miss that. Well, I’m going to take it upon myself to post a song at the beginning of our game threads from now on. If I see that someone else has beat me to it on any given night, I’ll just defer to their choice.

He was the guest at the Pearl Jam concert earlier in the year. It was awesome! 2nd time I’ve seen him live. The man can still rock like crazy despite being ancient.

ACC. I think it was in Sept. It was insane. Not only was Pearl Jam awesome but we left after the 2nd encore, thinking it was over. We ended up going too many stairs, ended up on floor level, got through security and got seat 3 rows up from ground level just before Neil came out. He played with them for a least another 40 minutes. It was the best show ever.

It’s only must win because we didn’t win the previous must wins and if we don’t win this must win we’ll have more must wins in the future until they get mathematically eliminated from the playoffs then the games will be must lose to get the best draft pick possible and then they will start winning.

Hahaha no kidding! We’ve got that ‘Try just hard enough to destroy the one good thing that could come of a wasted season’ down pat, don’t we? Still, I’d rather follow a team that goes down fighting than a team that just… goes down. Implication intended.
5-8 are all catchable. 1-4 are pretty much away, barring any incredible implosions. I still think we’ll do it!

Just saying, and this might be more perceived than real, that we do well enough to not get a lottery pick, but poorly enough to not get in the playoffs. See: the past few years.

This is why I wish hockey switched to a situation where everyone out of the playoffs was a “lottery” pick. Leave the only drop by a few spots in, but make it possible for any non=playoff team to win.

To be honest I remembered he was injured, but not the actual injury. Regardless that kind of proves the point. Knowing our luck we’ll trade Kadri + a couple firsts + for a unicorn and he’ll get injured and have to retire. Nobody is a guarantee.

People constantly confuse two-tier healthcare and parallel healthcare. The European model is called two-tier, but it’s actually parallel. Two-tier means everyone uses the same system, but some get priority.

I live here now. I get healthcare through work. Before that I paid $150 a month for Blue Cross.
If you make a decent living you’re ok. If you don’t, you’re fucked.
I think I will get it through my university. Going through the immigration process for my wife…..this is how I view the US immigration system: “Are you SURE you really want to come and contribute to our society? really? you’re sure? Here are some hoops to jump through to make sure you’re passionate.”

I wish Ron Wilson would take Joey Crabb off of Grabovski’s line. Crabb is a fourth liner so why is he on the second line? The Leafs have been struggling to score goals and we have a second liner (MacArthur) on the fourth line and a fourth liner on the second line. I get that Macarthur doesn’t have a point in seven games but how is putting him on a line with Steckel or Brown going to help? Why not put him with Kadri and Connolly and put Lombardi with Grabbo and Kulie? Or put Kulimen with Kessel and Bozak and put Lupul with Macarthur and Grabbo?

i see everyone jump all over hockey-analysis for it. sure, it can get insane if you extend it to absurdity. but it can also be useful for extracting trends in your data that is obscured by outliers. be them systematic (games against Boston) or temporal (early success that was maybe a fluke).

I think in practice coaches have to use trends and judgement because they can’t wait until the season is over to see what the correct statistical conclusion is.

If you take away the two games against Boston, take away his home starts against Canadian teams, remove his road starts against New York teams, divide the games against Winnipeg to the games against the New York Islanders, remove every other home and road game this season, and then add the Washington game, he has a nice sparkly .976 SV%.

Some info on "League Median" goaltending
Last year
Median save percentage for a backup (between 15 and 36 GP. 28 total goalies) was 0.9115.
Median save percentage for a starter (greater than 36 starts. 31 goalies) is 0.916.
Last 3 years (“backups” include starters who are either young or got injured)
Backups (30-90 GP. 31 goalies) median is 0.908
Starters (greater than 90 GP. 33 goalies) median is 0.915
Conclusion: WE ARE GETTING LEAGUE MEDIAN BACKUP GOALTENDING FROM GUS. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

It is impressive because of the goaltending the Leafs have had since the lockout. League average backup is GREAT!.
Gus this year is providing Leafs with the second best goaltending they have seen since the lockout.. (Weirdly Gus and Toskala are 2nd/9th and 3rd/10th respectively).

But most of the “surprise” teams of the season tend to fade. I’m remembering lots of talk about Colorado a year or two ago, and more recently, Minnesota.

Leafs zero points out of the playoffs, but WSH has a game in hand. 7th (NJ) and 8th (WSH) have negative goal differentials. Toronto’s +3, everyone behind them is very negative. 10th is WPG with -16.
