Im not a betting man but waiving Boyce & Rosehill seems to me to makea cap space enough for Nash. But what we would have to give up is too much of our youth & prospects to make it a good trade. So I am hoping nothing happens on this deal and we wait until summer and see who is available. DONT SELL THE FARM for a shot at this years Play-offs. The same goes for obtaining a Vet. Goalie.

I lived in Vancouver during the whole goalie graveyard years…now they have an elite starter, one of the best backups (that is probably a good starter), AND a good AHL goalie..yet they still complain about goaltending all the fucking time.
This makes me somewhat pessimistic that this time around we will really appreciate a good goaltender when we get one

You missed a lot of good years with the Jays. still remember the year we were like 7 games up on detroit with 7 games and we blew it. Also being up on KC 3&0 and loising in playoffs. But it was all worth it when they won 2 world series in a row. A few bad years for a lot of good years. Waiting for the last losing trend to turn around and think that maybe 2 or 3 years and we will be back on top
Bell, Barfield, McGriff, Fernandez, Felix, all young and so much potential. Everyone thought we’d eventually win. We did but with none of those players.

Yeah, except the Rays have actual payroll limitations while the Jays only have the ones imposed on them by Rogers.
Even if, say, the Jays had pissed away $25-million a year on Fielder, that would’ve only bumped their team payroll up to a staggering $85-million or so. That’s about a third of the Yankees payroll.
I know there are Jays websites out there who say that just because Rogers isn’t spending now doesn’t mean they never will, but frankly until they do we won’t know if they ever will either. And when you’re one of the biggest telecommunications companies in North America, all this bullshit about playing in a small-market team is just that. Bullshit.

$$$$
The Jays increased funding by $15M this year.
It’s still money spent but if they’d spent that same amount on payroll to overpay for someone who won’t help at the right time payroll would be in the $95M range, people would be a little more satisfied and the team still won’t make the playoffs.
They’re following the Rays method. It takes time.

They spend on international free agents all the time…they just don’t want any long term, big money commitments
I think they’d spend money on people who are worth it, and really can you blame em, two of the biggest contracts they handed out, Wells and Rios, really came back to bite em in the ass……really lucky to be rid of them.

Yeah, I am impressed that the Jays were willing to shell out above slot for some of their picks, and the money Anthopoulos has put into scouting. As I said below, it’s becoming clear that the Jays don’t want to overpay to convince free agents to come up here, so developing players internally and maintaining control of them for as long as possible will be critical.
However, as with the Oilers, the true test comes when all those killer young players need new contracts. Will Rogers be willing to pony up then?

Everybody is really dissapointed this off season because we “failed” to get Darvish/Fielder etc. I don’t think we were ever really in on any of them…just rumored because of the organization policy not to confirm/deny ANY interest in any player
I’m okay with the Jays not signing Darvish. That is a $50M lottery pick, just to get the chance to buy the lottery pick.
It is really hard to say if the Jays get outbid on free agents or if they just don’t want to come to Toronto for various reasons (artificial turf, foreign country, losing-suffering team, AL East). Basically, the Jays are the Edmonton Oilers of baseball: they need to overpay to get free agents.
I love the propsect pool the Jays have now, and I think Anthopoulos has done a good job at going through with a true rebuild plan, sort of like the Rays. I have my fingers crossed that when the time comes, Rogers will be willing to push the payroll higher.
I’m just not optimistic if they’re already talking about “payroll parameters” when the team payroll is at $60-million.

Seems to be the consensus around the league that the Jays have a great minor league system, and a good young core. Whether we are anywhere near overtaking the Red Sox/Yankees/Rays..who knows
They blew a record 25 saves last year and with a good closer who could win just 17 of them they could of had a record of 98- 64 That would have put them over the topand into plkayoffs. Lets hope this years closer i better than last years

The only good thing about the Leafs not making the playoffs is that it is totally stress free watching hockey.
On the plus side
I won’t have to travel back to Toronto every other night to watch playoff games in front of the ACC.
Even though I really, really want to.
It’s amazing how unfortunate the Burke-Wilson friendship has proven to be. I have no faith in Burke evaluating Wilson objectively.
Overtime loss: The new black.
I’m going to be sad if Wilson still has a job tomorrow. Not saying he’s the problem but the coaching position is the easiest to change and we need change. Also, with Eakins in the Marlies we have a possibly great coach to replace him with.

Replacing Wilson is easy with Dallas Eakins. Who would replace Eakins though? Dougie?

If the team finishes strongly, keep Eakins. If not, bring in a bunch of candidates for interviews over the summer.
(Wait, are you worried about the Marlies?)
Overtime loss: The new black.
Yes. Marlies are probably going on a deep playoff run. If Eakins goes to Leafs who coaches marlies?

I’d take the Walk-The-Plank-Gang™ over the coach that can never be fired regardless of how much worse the team gets.
Overtime loss: The new black.
Ideally
Burke hates the coach and roster with a passion and can’t wait to fire him and trade all the players.
This strategy is perfect. The only possible thing that would keep it from working is if the team was full of losers that nobody wants anyway. LOL

Okay Guys
So as we all know it’s our fault for putting too much pressure on the coach and too much pressure on the players and making a big deal out of them playing hockey and the looming trade deadline.
What can we do to fix this massive problem? Blow up all the newspapers and internet and TV stations and just let them play in an empty arena and rely of word of mouth about the scores? Think that would work? Would it be easier for us and them?

Not only would it work, it’s the only thing that’s ever worked. The only successful teams in sports are ones with empty arenas and no press coverage prior to their championship. Right?

That your ‘love’ for the bar is actually just a defense mechanism to keep yourself from getting close to people in real life. You’re always talking about the bar, walking by the bar, reading about the bar, giving directions to places starting from the bar, instead of talking to your friends or finding new places to go. Then you realize that all your friends met you at the bar and maybe, just maybe, the bar was your only friend in the first place and the only place you could ever really be yourself.

My personal cheat sheet for the trade deadline
It’s OK to trade valuable assets for core long-term pieces of the club, even if it doesn’t get us into 8th.
It’s OK to trade non-valuable assets for pieces designed to help us get into 8th.
It’s OK to sell pieces for valuable assets.
It’s not OK to trade valuable assets for pieces only designed to help us get into 8th.

Phaneuf:
It is a tough time of year for guys playing in a big market like this and hearing stuff day in and day out. We’re going to come back with the right attitude and we’ve got to win hockey games, that’s the bottom line.
Guess what Dion, the wolves weren’t nipping at your heels three weeks ago. Three weeks ago a window opened up to win a few more games and maybe solidify the fans’ belief in the team going into the trade deadline (for the first time in a long time, I might add). That window is now closed, as a group you’ve just finished pissing away every last bit of leeway you had in the standings. Is it now time to “come back with the right attitude”? Deja vu, I thought Lupul tweeted that the fans could “count on” the team being ready after the VAN game 10 days ago. Continually saying “we’re going to be better next time” quickly rings hollow when it’s being bookended by such lack of desperation on the ice. As fans we’ve heard it a million times before. No organization has continually failed as spectacularly as this one over the last 7 years. If this group is supposed to be somehow different, enough talk, just prove it.

is everyone jumping ship??
as a true Leafs’ fan, I find it difficult to see what’s going on right now…the coach looks lost and it’s filtering down to the players….like Wilson said y’day, “the team is expecting to make a mistake”…To begin with that mindset has to change….I’ve been through the Ballard years and have felt the pain….Burkie (who reminds me of Ballard) came in with so much fanfare and glamour, with his speech about being in the “greatest hockey town” in the world…he came in with a plan about adding “truculence, belligerence, testosterone etc” …that plan was scrapped…this team is probably in more disarray than it was before the season began….I will stand by this team…although it will take a lot to get this ship headed in the right direction…the day will come soon….but the changes have to begin with upper management…
yeah Burke is totally like Ballard.
WHAT
