I know how depressing the Leafs have made us this month. We get out hopes up, and they ruin it. Plain and simple they have failed their fan base. But I have a few thoughts about this, if you'd join me after the jump.
Losing sucks, it brings out the worst in everyone. Especially sports fans. The Leafs have gone 6 years without playoff hockey and that's embarrassing. All of us have reason to be miserable and pessimistic. We have devoted a lot of time, money and booze to them and they have yet to give us anything. However, as Not Norm Ullman said, it isn't the most important thing in the world. A lot of you have careers, families, extensive hobbies, friends and other distractions. Devote more time and energy to those pursuits, because ultimately it makes this situation even worse. This site has slowly been getting more and more demoralizing to post in and read. GDT's and even some other threads have gotten to the point where it's a nasty atmosphere. People getting worked up over differing opinions and viewpoints. It has, in a way become a dick measuring contest and it's driving people away.
I don't personally know 99% of the people here. But from what I know, it's an intelligent, welcoming, entertaining and insightful group. But lately that hasn't shown. Over the summer I had a coming out of sorts around these parts and it showed me just how awesome this place can really be. Yeah, the Leafs have let you down yet again, but don't let ruin what you guys have built. I love all of you, from the admins Chemmy, PPP etc, to the veteran members, and even to the people who are newer than me. So i'm asking everyone to relax a bit and try to make it a positive and welcoming atmosphere again. Losing sucks, but our attitudes shouldn't have to.
