Maple Leafs Fan Cheering Guide - Feb. 4th
Aside from the Islanders beating the Senators 2-1 in overtime rather than in regulation, last night's outcomes were exactly what the Leafs wanted thanks to the Panthers downing the Jets also by a score of 2-1. Now there are several impact games this evening so let's get right to it.
New Jersey Devils at Philadelphia Flyers
No real shocker here, the Devils sit 1 point above the Leafs with a game in hand so it's GO FLYERS! all the way. Aside from their own, this is the most important game for the Leafs tonight.
Pittsburgh Peguins at Boston Bruins
Just like the Devils, the Penguins are going to be one of the teams fighting the Leafs for a Playoffs spot right down to the wire, whereas the Bruins have all but locked up the North East Division and their spot already. Tonight, we're rooting for the reigning champs.
Washington Capitals at Montreal Canadiens
Some of you say it's an impossibility. "I won't do it. I have morals and principles to uphold. No way, no how." Well I'm sorry ladies and gents, but a Canadiens victory helps the Leafs garner a Playoff berth so it's GO HABS GO tonight.
Buffalo Sabres at New York Islanders
In what parallel dimension would the Leafs be more concerned about the Islanders catching them in the standing than they would be the Sabres? This one apparently as the Isles are 1 point ahead of the Sabres with a game in hand. So again, drop the rivalry hate for one night and cheer for a Sabres victory.
Florida Panthers at Tampa Bay Lightning
We cheered them on to victory last night, yet we cheer on their defeat tonight. A Tampa Bay win is the best for the Leafs tonight.
And lastly of course GO LEAFS GO!

When it comes to hoping for a Habs win, just remember: if you hate your rival more than you love your team, you might as well be a Senators fan.

You don’t have to hope for a Habs win. You just hope for a Capitals loss, whoever that may be against.

If everything goes right tonight, the Leafs’ playoff odds go up 8.4% from 75.9% to 84.3%.
Donny, please.

Also, a regulation win over the shenaturds would lower their chances 8.8% from 66.5% to 57.7%
Donny, please.

but what are the chances everything goes right? Montreal can’t even fail properly if it means it would help us (see their last game against Jersey) so, since Washington is going to win, that pretty much guarentees a Florida victory too since that’s how cruel the hockey gods are to us.
Fuck Kerry Fraser
"...Where be your gibes now, Glenn Healy?"
and I forgot to mention New Jersey is obviouslywinning because they always find a way to screw us no matter what
Fuck Kerry Fraser

Yeah it’s unlikely that we get every game to go our way. Beating the Sens puts us up 8.8% though, so that’s a big difference.
Donny, please.

Also interesting: after New York, Pittsburgh, Boston and Philadelphia (who all have 97%+ odds of getting in) is Florida with 84% odds and then the Leafs with 75.9% odds. The only other teams with relevant odds are New Jersey (69.3%), Ottawa (66.5%) and Washington (67.6%).
Donny, please.

Maybe their is an adjustment because they are actually a good hockey team?
Reaslistically, we aren’t catching the Pens (particularily if Crosby and Staal can come back). They are in that top tier of the east (with Philly, NYR, and Boston), and will probably wrap up at least the 5th spot.
This is reminding me of last year where every team we were chasing seemed to win every fucking game.

It’s horrible, but lately I’ve gotten used to “wanting” the Habs to win. How gross is that?? I feel dirty. Also, GO LEAFS GO!!!
My mood probably depends on the results of last Leafs game. I may have a problem.
Perpetual mediocrity requires some success. No top picks for the Habs and a greater chance for the Leafs to make the playoffs = no brainer.

How fucked up is it....
That tonight there are 5 teams from the NE division playing and we’re cheering ALL of them on except for the Sens.
Go Leafs Go!!! (and Sabres and Bruins and Habs)
Fuck the Sens.

Fucking bullshit
Giroux gets tripped on the PP, Kovalchuk comes the other way and buries it. 2-0 Devils
7 shots on goal, and it’s the 2nd period? What the fuck, Flyers?

You're happy...
…thinking you’ve escaped annoying comments with Hughson/Simpson calling the Montreal game, but nooo, Glenn Healy is in Ottawa. :(
I would hope someone would throw a puck at his thick head, but I’m afraid it will go through his 5-hole.

This all doesn't really matter
if we can play kick ass hockey until the playoffs… and does anyone know who’s starting in goal tonight for us?

I can’t remember a time when we’ve gotten help from other teams to make the playoffs. Maybe you guys can.

Kovalchuk can toss them. Schenn will now be out with another concussion

I remember Rinaldo in London. He was a dirty hitter and scumbag. Looks like he is well on his way to becoming human garbage in the NHL. What a filthy slew foot.

the Leafs playoff chances have fallen about 2%.
a win increases it about 8%.
the best thing the Leafs can do tonight and every night is win.

Canucks totally dominated all game and score with 30 seconds left to tie it. They seem to get points in games they have no business being in
fuck the Canucks
it's sad, but living in B.C. has caused me to hate the Canucks more than the Habs. almost.

I lived in Van for 18 years
Moved there in the summer of ’94, bad timing no question. I hate the Canucks bigtime. They are in my top 3 most hated (1 – Habs, 2 – Sabres, 3 – Canucks).
You should hear the shit that the fans and media try to pin on the Leafs and Leaf fans. Impossibly stupid, insanely annoying
