Wiki covers off the importance of the Pistols in the Clash’s finding their voice.
At the time, all i know is the Pistols were like a bomb going off. Whereas the Clash were a bit like a big machine that came along afterward. They were nice and all, and important and rhythmic, but… full of self-importance in a bobo-esque way.
Whereas the Pistols were just… explosive. Shit hot. Crazy. It was them that blew the holes in that late 70’s awfulness. And they created something nobody could touch afterward. Something new. People knew that. The Clash knew that.
And bottom line? London Calling and Train in Vain are great songs. And I’ve spent some time in Brixton, including in riots. But…. Anarchy and God/Queen… different class.

The Pistols wouldn’t have been the Pistols had the Ramones not blown their fucking minds when they hit the UK. Members from the Pistols, Siouxsie & the Banshees, and the Clash were all in attendance. The Ramones is where it all began. Plus, the Sex Pistols were all image and shock value anyways.

Not so. The NY Dolls had a second-hand influence through McLaren I think it was, but the Ramones came later. They only landed in the UK in July 76, whereas the Pistols were already touring by then, and had triggered the formation of the Clash, Buzzcocks, et al.
I love the Ramones, and have absolutely no doubt the influence that swung from NYC over to the UK as punk was brewing up, but it’s nonsense on stilts to argue the Pistols were all image and shock value. Straight up, Anarchy and God Save The Queen are great great songs.
Besides, shock value – when it came to punk – was at the center of the game. Best to not pretend the Ramones weren’t interested in image and shock value.

Joy Division > Buzzcocks, no doubt. One of my favourite bands ever.
In terms of individual album play though, Singles Going Steady has gotten heaviest rotation. That’s probably overly influenced by the last 5 or 6 years though where it’s become a bit of a house favourite with the wife and kids.

I said something about this last year: if we’d had a full year of Reimer rather than Gus/Giggy for the first half, even if Reimer went .500 as opposed to his normal win % in Giggy’s games, we’d have been within a couple points of the division title. Something to think about

Indeed, it was glorious. Leafs fans ruled the place once all the Sens fans left halfway through the third. During stoppages in play, every single person shown on the big screen who wearing a Sens jersey was booed mercilessly. It was friggin’ amazing.

this is why I asked for the stats earlier today. The leafs in 2012 have been doing much better not only in the W column but possession-wise as well, which is encouraging.
