Hemsky’s been a .9 PPG player for a long time despite being hurt a lot. The injuries suck but there’s no denying he’s got talent.
Not sure if I’d spend a lot on him: hard in the cap era to commit to someone who might not play, regardless of their talent.
If my team was a serious contender and you could pry him out cheap? You pray he stays healthy for 35 games through the playoffs.

That’s what I did in undergrad, I took a lot of night classes and, because I was in Ottawa, was already paying for LeafsTV interactive. I don’t want to go into using illegal streams though, and I will still get all the 3rd periods which is good.

Might not be true, but it seems like Reimer lets in a goal early a lot but then buckles down. Willing to admit it’s just some sort of statistical aberration but he’s certainly had games where three minutes in he looks awful and then pulls it together.

The team I coach lost on Saturday. It’s their first loss since the first game of the season and their goal differential per game is like +10.
I normally break down things we can do better post game and I went into the locker room and they looked terrified so I gave my quick speech
“Thought you guys played well, didn’t get some bounces, some stuff we can work on. We don’t judge ourselves based on results because it’s how we get to those results that matter. Sometimes we do the wrong things and win like last week and sometimes we’ll do the right things and lose like today.”

Goalie Live Blog Sample
Three good saves on Reimer, not the best rebound on the shot off the blocker, but good saves to settle him down nonetheless. Getting the shots help. Love the goal-cam replay, I can learn so much about a goalie seeing the back of their skates. That left pad save was solid and disciplined follow through with the pad and recovery.

Grabovski puts up points and drives play the right direction. If we can’t get a Couturier, Brayden Schenn, etc. level prospect it’s probably not worth it.

I guess we were right on all the other guesses we had last round of contracts that were handed out. I don’t really think what other players are getting really plays as much as we fans think it does though I’m sure its a point but to the amount of weight it really holds is debatable… I mean in what world does someone that makes $3.1M (salary) all of a sudden get 5M… Im not saying that he wont make that or isn’t worth it but that its very unlikely.

Fair enough after the point but is there a site that has past contract and present ones to compare raises? Even at a 50% raise over his current salary would bring Grabo’s salary to $4.65M that’s a generous raise and closer to what I would be expecting him to get. I just can’t see him getting $5M over 5yrs from Burke.

Hold on I think we are talking about two different things here. You are talking about desperate GM getting a UFA on the open market which isn’t the case (until July 1st) for grabo. We really don’t have a gauge of what Burke will do but considering his past re-upping, Schenn, JML and Mac I feel more confident to say it will be manageable number and come in under what most will think… this being based on Burke’s past resignings.

To me that seems wrong and a good way to fuck your team up. Look how Burke re-upped Kulemin… He has 30 goals and wanted to get paid. If Burke thought that way you just said, we would be wondering why he handed out a big contract. You look at the body of work to see its tur value. If the said player is trending upwards you can pay on a scale.

Kulemin was a restricted free agent. The Leafs could, in theory, tender a qualifying offer of 105%, and not give him any other raise whatsoever. Instead, they tendered the QO, and offered something higher.
The qualifying offer (which guarantees your team compensation in the event someone sends them an offer sheet) is the only time the current contract matters. This is exactly why UFA vs. RFA makes a difference.

Player A makes 3 million dollars on his current contract. He has put up 2 points in 80 games.
Player B makes 3 million dollars on his current contract. He has put up 80 points in 80 games.
Player A will not get a new contract. Player B will get a very good one. At no point in this simplistic “renegotiation” did we give a damn about how much these two players made on their current contracts.

I think it’s weird to put it in terms of a “raise.” He’s not getting an increase in his current pay – he’s getting an all new contract. Why does Grabbo care if he’s getting a 50% raise if someone is offering him a 150% raise? Is he going to say “150% raise? That’s way too much.”
So it makes more sense if you just look at it like this: “when players with Grabovski’s point production have re-signed with teams, how much did they sign for?” You’ll notice that question doesn’t ask “and what were they making before?”

You want to see the history of fans gauging contracts? Check out clratken’s estimate on Ian White. The estimate was 3-3.5M. The contract ended up being $2,999,995.
It can be done. It cannot be done just by saying “meh, I’ll take his base salary and add a number that I would like to see, then defend it as my own opinion.”

It is too hard to nail it down to much. I was thinking mid 4’s coming into the season, but with the way he has turned it on recently and looking at comparables he is quite possibly looking at low 5’s.

Sure Bergeron got a low deal, but he deserves a fair chunk more than Umberger (4.6) and Laich (4.5). He also has similar numbers to Krejci who just got 5.25 × 3.

I think saying “a lot less” than 5M counts as the latter. I’m not sure any list of comparable UFA signings for a player with two years over .7 PPG is going to come in under 5M. Even Antropov got 4 mil, and that was when the cap was 3 years behind this year.

This is exactly what happens in arbitration. It’s not like Grabbo’s agent can just walk into Burke’s office and say, “Grabbo deserves 8 million dollars.” Burke would say “That’s just not right!” and Grabbo’s agent would say “It’s my opinion, and it’s no more or less right than yours.” and Burke would say “bullshit. Give me some reasons, or GTFO.”

Second: No, when they go to arbitration the GM has to provide his evidence why the payer should be paid low (which also includes comparables of LOW played players)

Burke doesn’t have a good history of signing UFA’s to cheap deals. As well if Grabbo takes significantly below his value he is either an idiot, has a horrible agent, or truly does love the Leafs and is willing to take a smaller deal to give us a small increased chance in success (I highly doubt this).

Signing a UFA to stay is more similar to a UFA from another team than an RFA to stay. UFA has the right to test the market. RFA does not.

I’ve beaten all of the DA games on Xbox, but I don’t play my Xbox anymore. I’d rather have a DA save file on my PS3 for when DA3 comes out. Next time I touch my Xbox will be for Alan Wake’s American Nightmare and Mass Effect 3 and then it will likely be retired until Halo 4.
Dead Space seems cool but I’ve only beaten six chapters so far. It’s repetitive… fetch this, activate that, etc.

How is FFXIII….if I told my teenage self that I hadn’t played the last Final Fantasy game hed be very dissapointed
Interesting concept but very linear for the first half. It opens up after that but never gets particularly exciting. I almost beat it the first time I played it on 360 but I got bored and returned it to blockbuster.
I heard FFXIII-2 improved on the linearity if you can troop through the first game to get to it.

I asked Justin at Goalie Guild a question about Rynnas, his response:
… it’s his size/athleticism/quickness combo. He is capable of being dynamic, I think he can evolve into a goalie that is way more situationally aware. And he’s a bull. Kind of like Niemi, a very low center of gravity, so when he seals the ice, the ice is SEALED. Not going to push him around. He has the potential to be a very “square” goalie to pucks and shooters. Just love his upside a lot. It’s certainly partially due to personal bias. I love Finnish goalies for many different reasons.

Rynnas is going to be sick in a few more years, as long as he’s not shoved into the ECHL. He needs to be playing in the AHL…and often.
