It’d be nice to see the Leafs win this one. I dont have much hope outside Gus putting on a show to try and take back the net. Weve scored 11 goals in the last 2 games and 16 in the last 4 so hopefully we can keep that up.

I always liken Mats Sundin to Charlie Watts. Happy to be there, driving the machine but I remember reading a story about Charlie Watts punching Mick Jagger and threatening his life one night and could picture Mats doing the same thing to JFJ

I think the general point that may have gotten obscured is that they are generally not a likable team, not that they can’t play hockey. They’d be a little less hated if they didn’t run around biting people, whining that people aren’t pumping their tires, throwing headshots, etc.

I`m not totally disagreeing with you. Obviously they put up with a lot of shit as the top scoring duo on that team.

I would. Malone is a quality player. We simply don’t have room for him and he is overpaid. He is miles ahead of Komi though.

Ottawa is nothing. I don’t consider it a rivalry when all I want for the team is for them to crash and burn.
If we got into a playoff series with the Habs or Bruins: as long as the series is well-played, on both sides, then I wouldn’t care who won. Especially the Habs. I could die happy if I can finally see a Leafs-Habs game 7 as (some diety) intended.

Well… sort of. Obviously, I want the Leafs to win, but a well-played playoff series between us and the Habs, that went down to the wire, I wouldn’t care less. People get their highs in different ways.
I’d be deflated to lose, but I’d be happy I got to see one. There’ll be other chances.

See I`m not sure we do. We`re one of the Original Six. Who are our true rivals? The Habs, and to lesser extents, Bruins and Red Wings. Other Original Six teams and historical rivals.
These johnny-come-latelys like Ottawa and Winnipeg only wish we considered them rivals. We should give them no more consideration than someone would give a harmless fly, because that`s all they deserve.

That`s why I added the qualifier “to lesser extents”. My opinion is probably coloured by the fact I grew up in Windsor, around a lot of Wings fans, and how fun those Norris days were, even if the Leafs often sucked so bad back then.

I would just like to point out that that was not Gus’ fault. At all. He let in one stinker and had a great game besides that. Overall it was a good game and he kept us in it when we were outshot by something like 10 shots.

Just saw a replay of the end of the Devils-Rangers game. Torts`face was lobster red after that call. Too bad he gave the no comment after the game, his press conference if he gave one would have been epic.

Fact of the matter is:
Winnipeg only won the game on New Year’s Eve thanks to the refs. And it was only by two goals. Tonight, a really shitty Leafs team backed up by a competent goaltender held the game to a one-goal lead for the last half.
And make no mistake, but we crushed the Jets at the ACC. Both times.
So they can go fuck themselves. Let them have their shit-tastic party for having the pleasure of beating us tonight. We know we’re better, and we should look ahead to Philly and Mats Sundin night against Montreal.

I did as well. Went to a deli for a smoked meat sandwich in Montreal before the Leafs-Habs game a few years back when Quinn came in. The waiter asked who`d win and he said, “Well we are, of course!” Damn right the Leafs won that night! :D

I met Wade Belak a few years ago
Right as I was walking into the Hockey Hall of Fame before going to a Leafs game, there he was just standing there amazed at all the history. I didn’t want to annoy him but figured I’d talk to him and atleast say he’s fucking awesome… turned out to be one of the nicest people I’ve ever met and talked for probably 20 minutes…and THAT’S pretty much the only Leaf I’ve met :P

He was a guest on Real Sports All Access today. The Leafs tweeted about it yesterday and since I was going to be in the area, I went down. Basically they do a social media/people in the crowd Q&A session with whoever’s on, and then there’s an autograph signing afterwards. The thing with the autographs though is that you have to have a wristband to get one, and you get a wristband by showing up early and picking one up. Problem for me was that I had school until 4 (it started at 5), so obviously I didn’t receive one. But since Mats is such a nice guy, after all the wristband people were done getting autographs he let the rest of the people who hung around after the Q&A session get an autograph from him too. I shook his hand and told him that he was the first captain of the Leafs I remembered, that I grew up idolizing him, and that it was an honour to meet him. He was really humbled and thanked me for my words. He just seemed really happy to be back in Toronto.
Also if anyone watches the All Access on mapleleafs.com or wherever they upload it to, the obnoxious asshole that yells “You’re the man Mats!” at the beginning would be me, hahaha. I took a ton of pictures and some video so I might make a FanPost of all of it.

Bad game, but we were kind of due for a discombobulated game. This team has been on fire for a while now. We’re only 3 points back of Pitt, 5 back of Philly. If we win on Thursday we’re right back on the heels of a few teams. Time to go back to Reimer because I think he’s starting to get hot for the first time this season.
