@suicidepass posted a series of tweets. I wanted somewhere to read in, proper reading order. Here they are.
a multi-tweet tip for self-flagellating Leafs fans on this darkest of dark days. i know you're hurting. i know you're angry. losing sucks.
you will be told by many, many people who haven't thought it through all the way that the only way to help this team is to withdraw support.
they will tell you: "don't go to the games." they will tell you to vote with your wallet. they will tell you to boycott.
when they do, ask them how not supporting your beloved team will help them. will indifference make the bad contracts end quicker?
will giving up bring the cost of free agents down? will whining increase the Leafs' cap room? will crying make Burke make better moves?
will bitching make the players we have smarter, faster, stronger, better? will it make players immune to injuries or slumps?
it will not.
the realities of the NHL dictate that everyone is working with the same overall budget. the Leafs will always be able to spend to the cap.
indifference will not make this team better. if you don't care, why should the people in charge?
if indifference made poor teams better, the Phoenix Coyotes would be 10-time defending Stanley Cup champions. (sorry, Coyotes fans.)
go to the games. yell. scream. be obnoxious. tweet out your bile. let management know you care. be loud. be omnipresent.
we demand players play with passion. passion is what it takes to win, according to conventional sports wisdom. stay passionate.
we will get through this. we will make the playoffs, someday. probably not this year. maybe not next year. but we know how to suffer.
one day, when we return to the promised land, when we get our goddamned parade, will you be with us? if so, awesome. high-five.
if not, get off the ship now. swim for shore. find a safe harbour with some other, more easily embraceable team. fandom is hard. nut up.
man, i need a drink.
