This was a journal entry completed by one of my grade five English students. I'd say that's an A+ if I've ever seen one. Hope this brightens your day a little, fellow Leafs fans.

ohhh mannnn… I laughed pretty hard there. That’ reminds me of what my friends and I used to say when we played hockey, when I was kid, after someone tried to be a hero or took a really cheap shot.
Look at him, guy thinks he’s fackin’ messier out there; like who is this guy?!
Ahh… takes me back.
That kid is probably the last remaining Leafs fan with a positive outlook on the team right now. MLSE should build a statue to him.
Riding the Leafs bandwagon since 1991.

My favorite sports team
My least favorite sports team is the Ottawa Senators. They suck big time. Last year, they got in the lottery. Thats the last 5 teams in the whole NHL. Then they picked Mike Zibenjad like who is that guy. The Leafs are way better than the Sens. They actually have some good players like Kessel, Lupul, and Phaneauf. Like how Alfredsson pick is as old as like my dad who’s 44 or something. Like they have Spezza there so called savior. With his banana curve.

I think the most impressive thing is a 10 yr old knows what the draft lottery is…

This is so awesome. I wish I felt this way about this team. Love it.

It’s true… makes you realize that overanalyzing everything and taking things like tanking and firing coaches too seriously just take the joy out of loving the Leafs and hating the Dirty Sens.
I once fist-pumped Shea Weber. It still hurts.
Twitter is a thing!
Amazing. Although the correct attitude towards the Sens is indifference, not hatred. We don’t want them to doubt their irrelevance or anything. But I’ll give the kid a pass because he or she is obviously pretty cool.

The only thing I could read was, “My least favorite sports team is the Ottawa Senators. They suck…”
But that’s all I needed to read to give this kid an A+.

You guys have a Hockey Studies program for Grade 5 students?

Has anyone told this kid
…that Santa and the Easter Bunny don’t exist?
If not, then this paper suggests he is soon to find out three things he believes in are myths.

What do you do? Sit around all day waiting for children to build sand castles so you can go stomp on them? How insecure is your fanbase?

Nah, dude.
I only stomp on imaginary sand castles. The real ones, those are great. No insecurity at all, bud. I thought it was really funny, and a great exposée on the battle between Reason and blind, unquestioning (misguided) faith played out in the microcosm of the Battle of Ontario.
Deep breaths all around, son.

“Dude.” “Bud.” “Son.” Do you think you’re on South Park?
It’s exposé, by the way.
Oh, I'm sorry, just one moment. Is this a five minute argument or the full half hour?
Further proof that growing up a Leafs fan is pretty much the sentiment of “A Boy Named Sue.” That kid’s going places.
