I am hoping the PPP community can help me with some insight into schools offering Sports Management MBA programs. Has anyone been through one, or reseearched options?
I am planning a career change and am seriously considering Sports Industry options in Operations, PR, Marketing and Agency work. I fully understand the competitive nature and limited numbers of these jobs, but I am willing to take on the risk of having to fall back to an entry-level position in a new industry. I am at a "now or never" point in life where major change starts becoming exponentially more difficult and I have little interest in continuing on the carrer path I am presently on. I already have an undergrad business degree, but I think a more advanced education will be more competitive on the job market and provide access to better opportunities and alumni networking. Plus, and maybe most importantly, this is something that I can see I would genuinely enjoy doing.
It would be nice to stay in Canada, but there do not seem to be many schools offering this degree here. The only one in eastern Canada seems to be Laurentian. It's difficult to find the reputations of programs or even find up-to date info on Canadian schools offering the program at all. Some websites, including the NASSM, list programs that now appear defunct, like The University of Alberta program. I have found many US schools offer the program, but the array of options is overwhelming.
My time horizon is to start in the fall next year (preferably), or the year after. If anyone has any insights or feedback, I would appreciate hearing it.
