So lets just say the Leafs do in fact make the playoffs. Magic number is 8 points(any points gained by Toronto or lost by Winnipeg/New Jersey)
Going into May, will face punchers really be necessary? When looking at the players the Leafs have on the roster I have been kicking around a few ideas on what is the ideal lineup. Obviously this is the ideal "hockey players" lineup, not the ideal "we are a scary team" lineup. Up for debate which is more effective. We all know what coach Carlyle thinks.
Effectively roll 4 qulaity lines. Final D Pairing is a little shaky but no team is perfect.
Kessel - Bozak - JVR
Lupul - Kadri - Kulemin
MacArthur - Grabovski - Frattin
Komarov - McClement - Hamilton
Phaneuf - Gunnarsson
Franson - Fraser
Gardiner - Liles
Obviously TOI would be distributed accordingly but the best part of this lineup to me is the balance and the quality of the fourth line and their ability to effectively shut down another teams top line. Balance is a big part of winning in the playoffs and any team that can have a guy like Grabovski on a "third line" has a chance to do a little damage..
I guess we shall see what the ever so brilliant Coach Carlyle does with his lineup. We can all pray that the face punchers dont see a minute of ice time if this team makes the playoffs.
