Add another one to the pile. Today the Maple Leafs announced that defense man Matt Hunwick will have season ending sports hernia surgery. According to @HennyTweets, the recovery looks to be 10 weeks and having the surgery now will get Hunwick back o nthe ice for July.

The defense man signed a 2 year, $1.2 million contract this summer with the Leafs and has been one of Mike Babcock's favourties, averaging 22:34 of ice time per game. Hunwick has 2 goals and 8 assists this season. Hunwick joins Nathan Horton, Joffrey Lupul, Tyler Bozak, James van Riemsdyk, and Stephane Robidas on IR.

Using one of their emergency recalls, the Maple Leafs have brought up defense man Viktor Loov from the Toronto Marlies. Loov has already played 4 games with the Maple Leafs this season, nabbing two assists.

While no one wants to see injuries, it's another opportunity for management to evaluate young talent at the NHL level.

The Maple Leafs host the New York Islanders tomorrow night at the Air Canada Centre.
