Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

From The Branches

Ok, so I guess the name stays. Here are this morning's links:

  • Loser Domi has the latest installment of the JFJ post-firing suicide watch. Stupid licorice guns.

  • Dave Shoalts delivers some...good news? The Leafs have gone 7-11-3 since his injury December 15th. Last year he played all 82 games and in 2005-2006 the Leafs went 1-7-1 in the 9 games that he missed with a groin injury. Over the past three year the Leafs have gone 94-70-24 (.564 of available points earned) with McCabe in the lineup and 8-18-4 (.333) without the salary anchor dressed. It's that damn trickle down effect.

  • Howard Berger takes a look at all of the Leafs' players. Decent evaluations for the most part but so wildly off-base on Steen. No appreciable improvement? No willingness to compete? Working Class Howard needs to get those glasses fixed.

  • Kevin McGran thinks that the no-trade clauses JFJ gave out like party favours will hamper Fletcher's ability to make deadline deals. Shouldn't the players want to be where they are wanted? Aside from Mats, none have earned the right to stick around if asked to leave and if they do it shows that they aren't interested in winning. I wouldn't buy them out either. This might be a two-year salary dump.

McCabe

McCabe's defensive play was finally hitting its stride when he got hurt. Plus, even though we pay him too much he's better than Ian White.

Just thinking about our D on Thursday makes me excited.

Re: McCabe, Berger

Maybe that talk with Towelie is finally sinking in now that he's had the time off to think about it.

I'm just going to reproduce the Berger bit about that lovable Make-a-Wish in its entirety here, since it's gold:

ANDY WOZNIEWSKI Defenceman (9): The Woz is a good guy and a hard worker, but his lack of foot-speed and his tardy decision making has hurt him in his first full NHL season. He has taken numerous penalties for being out of position in all areas of the ice. Woz may have a future in the league but I don't think it's in Toronto. Andy is unrestricted this summer.

niceness

I just like the "Andy is unrestricted this summer". It seems kind of like he's saying, "hint hint, fellas"

No Joke

I guess Berger is just afraid to come out and say it since he has to go to the rink and talk to the players. Allegedly. I am not sure if we can believe he goes to the games after his Steen comments.

Translation

The Woz is a good guy and a hard worker, but his lack of foot-speed and his tardy decision making has hurt him in his first full NHL season.

Translates to:

I'm going to soften the blow by saying he's a nice guy, but he's slow and dumb.

No Kidding

"dinosaurs had bigger brains and were more noted for their footspeed. Ps. re-sign him and you're stupid."

Discarded paragraphs

Andy Wozniewski wouldn't run into anyone blindfolded in a crowd. One time it took him twelve minutes to decide whether or not to swat a bee crawling on his arm. If Andy Wozniewski stays on this team I'll eat four copies of the early edition.

Other discarded paragraphs

I once saw Andy Wozniewski push on a pull door for 30 minutes. Another time he got stuck in the shower because the shampoo's instructions said 'Rinse, lather, repeat'. And he can't use his red crayon or paste because he ate it.

this is fun!

The Woz is a great guy, but I once saw him stare at a can of orange juice. I asked him about it and he said, "Well, it says "concentrate" on it." On a camping trip, he informed me that he was in search of a moose, you know, for his hair.

and +2 for you, PPP (for the push on a pull door) and Chemmy (for the bee thing)

More fun than a Wozniewski Road Trip

Which just involves him tripping over the painted lines...just like on the ice.
