Collector's Corner #8 - As Teams Go By

In collecting, for whatever reason, I've always been fascinated by teams I never got to see play.  It's because of this that I'm always looking for new footage of the WHA and why I've always had a...

Yesterday saw a lot of news about the Kontinental Hockey League hitting the wire. The league's draft saw three Leafs get drafted including Jiri Tlusty and Mikhail Stefanovich. Mirtle also noted that the league has a couple of teams in financial trouble including Khimik. This card (back here) is a teaser for a post I hope to write soon. I was at the Jays game on Saturday and in between watching Alex Rios tease Jays fans with a 4-for-4 day I found a vending machine that sells old packs of cards for $0.50 - $1. I was transported to my youth and grabbed a bunch of packs. This one is from OPC's 91-92 collection.

I'm not sure how to start this one off except to say that when this set came out, I hated it.  I know that people who started collecting in the mid to late 80s look on these sets fondly.  To me,...

Collector's Corner #3 - 1979-80 (for real this time)

1979-80 OPC - 396 cards When Upper Deck chose one set to remake as a special insert for this year's OPC hockey, they went with 1979-80.  I think it's fair to say that 1979-80 is the most famous...
