Brian Burke discusses and recaps the Toronto Maple Leafs' 2009 NHL Draft picks. He also touches on free agency and the possible trading of Tomas Kaberle. He admits that most kids are projects that are a couple of years away. Burke lauds the Hot House program that produced a few of the players that he selected including Jerry D'Amigo (RPI) and Kenny Ryan (Boston College). He also refused to comment on whether Ryan should head to Windsor in the OHL. Burke feels bad for Pogge that he is still waiting to find out what the Leafs are going to do and noted that he'll likely just send a qualifying offer. Burke wants the Marlies to produce kids to play the same kind of game that he wants to see at the NHL level. He wanted to bring his own guy in to ensure that his philosophy is implemented at all levels. He'll have the new coach on place in a week hopefully.
The Toronto Maple Leafs' Director of Amateur Scouting Dave Morrison discusses the Leafs' 2009 NHL Draft selections. An interesting note is that the Jamie Devane has two years of junior left. The Leafs felt that it was worth picking him earlier because other teams had shown interest in him. Still seems odd to me.
