In eight minutes and 21 seconds of NHL action, Auston Matthews had his first goal.

In 14 minutes and 18 seconds, he had two.

In 21 minutes and 25 seconds, he had three.

That, my friends, is a hat trick.

Assisted by Morgan Rielly, Matthews’ third shot went right in the net for his third career goal in his first career game.

This is definitely sustainable, for Matthews is now the owner of all things hockey. He’s already creating history:

Except he’s already up on Alex Ovechkin now. The last guy I can recall scoring a hat trick in his first NHL game is Derek Stepan, but please do correct me if someone did it since then. “Then” being six years ago.

It’s Matthews’ league now, and we’re all just living in it.

There is only one person even more awesome and more GIFable in this moment, and that is Matthews’ mom.

Look at her! She is the best.

So... that’s it for hats, then. Ready your roosters?
