The Toronto Maple Leafs Spengler Cup team

The Spengler Cup is an invitational tournament hosted by the Swiss league’s HC Davos every year from December 26th to December 31st. This year is the 90th edition of the tournament, and you can ready a history of the Spengler Cup here.

The teams that have been invited this year are:

Mountfield HK - Czech Extraliga
HK Dinamo Minsk - KHL
Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg - KHL
HC Lugano - NLA (Switzerland)
Team Canada

The Team Canada that plays in the Spengler Cup is usually made up of Canadians playing in Europe, or NHLers who do not have current deals. Last years team featured Matthew Lombardi, Derek Roy, Marc-Andre Bergeron, Keith Aulie and current Marlie Jeff Glass among others.

A thought that was shared on twitter by @YakovMironov was what if we made an all Leafs Spengler Cup team? Yakov was intimidated by the work needed to assemble such a fine group of Leafs not good enough for the NHL anymore, so it was up to me to create the team. I did have to add some ex-Marlies to pad things out, so not all names may have graced the ACC with their presence, and also move back one forward.
