# DeMarcus Cousins shows Nazem Kadri some love, gets his jersey

While the NHL seems content to ignore Toronto, forcing the [Maple Leafs](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/teams/toronto-maple-leafs?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com) to celebrate their centennial through their own means and [without the aid of a single special event](https://www.pensionplanpuppets.com/why-did-the-nhl-care-more-about-montreals-centennial-than-torontos/), at least the NBA is willing to acknowledge and celebrate the city. Okay, it's not the same as getting the [NHL draft](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl-draft?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com) or Winter Classic, but it is an All-Star Game - even if it isn't hockey.

(Though the Raptors ARE doing a fair bit better than the Leafs...)

The NBA All-Star weekend saw tons of great basketball players come up north. One of them was DeMarcus Cousins, a guy from Alabama who's played for the Sacramento Kings his entire career. So there isn't much about him that screams "Canada" or "Toronto" or anything like that.

Cousins had a pretty easy fix for that during his time in Toronto, though:

It's one thing to get a blank jersey, it's another to take the initiative to select a player. And a good player, at that; someone his age who still looks to be part of the long-term solution in Toronto.

Hopefully Cousins can put that jersey to good use for a while yet!
