Not only did Leafs prospect Frederik Gauthier just triumph over the Quebec Remparts in the QMJHL Finals, but he also assisted on the game winner, as the primary assist no less. Gauthier finishes his QMJHL playoff run with 16 points in 20 games and an astounding 630 faceoffs of which he won 54.3% and took 125 more than anybody else.
Maple Leafs head equipment manager managed Team Canada's equipment to gold!
Mike Babcock is expected to make his decision soon - this week, in fact - and soon, this madness will be behind us.
In the meantime, there are four teams sincerely in the hunt for his services. The Detroit Red Wings, of course, are one of them. After that, there are the Buffalo Sabres, San Jose Sharks, and, of course, the Toronto Maple Leafs: all of whom are willing to give up a draft pick to the Wings should he leave.
The Sioux Falls Stampede are officially USHL champions. On that team? Last year's fifth round pick, Dakota Joshua, who put up 20 goals and 44 points over 52 games.
He added another four goals and 13 points over 11 playoff games. Here are three of those goals. Pretty good investment for a fifth round pick, eh?
Yeah, it's Don Cherry. But he does have some perspective on this, via a tweet rant that started with this, and ultimately advising Mike Babcock to avoid a rebuilding team.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a rebuilding team in need of a new coach.
Take from it what you will; it's not as if Babcock is consulting Cherry.
And with that, Gardiner, along with the rest of Team USA, now has a 75% chance of getting a medal at the World Championships.
That's an awesome shot, and on NHL goalie Reto Berra, too. Hopefully there will be a lot more of those next season!
Thanks to @myregularface for the GIF.
