# Former Toronto Maple Leaf Colton Orr retires from NHL

April 11, 2015 was the last time [Colton Orr](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/players/54200/colton-orr?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com) suited up for an NHL game. Now, just over a year later - and with only 10 games played in the AHL over that time - he's [officially retired from the NHL](http://www.nhlpa.com/news/colton-orr-retires-from-nhl-after-9-seasons?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com).

Orr's career concludes with 477 games played, including 232 with the [Toronto Maple Leafs](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/teams/toronto-maple-leafs?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com). The six seasons he spent in Toronto made it the longest place he stuck around, though he did play four seasons and 224 games with the [New York Rangers](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/teams/new-york-rangers?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com) as well.

He scored eight goals and 13 points as a Leaf, and racked up 637 penalty minutes, including 56 fights.

Orr really became known as a Leaf in part thanks to Don Cherry's almost over-aggressive love of tough guys, which was Orr's only role in the NHL. Under new management, the Leafs have shifted away from such a philosophy - following the rest of the hockey world as a changing of the guard takes place, rendering players such as Orr obsolete.

Still, he played until he was 34 and carved out a pretty solid career for himself. Best wishes for the Orrs in this next chapter.
