Sunday was a much different matter, playing against the Utica Comets (New Jersey Devils affiliate) with Martin Jones made his debut in net for the Marlies, stopping 21 of 23 shots on goal. Our old friend Erik Källgren started in net for the Comets and was pulled after letting in a fourth goal on only nine shots. The Richmond Hill native was drafted by the Leafs in 2020 but played NCAA hockey for the University of Connecticut until his third year finished at the school in 2023\. An update on his status is pending. The Leafs play their third game of the season tonight here in Toronto against Chicago, and yes that means Connor Bedard will make his first appearance in Toronto. Expect a lot of media hype over that.
