# Blindsided by awesomeness

Wow. What a game last night. Based on the Leafs' struggles as of late, I was expecting something in the other direction. Toronto played a solid game against the [Capitals](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/teams/washington-capitals?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com). They were physical against Ovechkin, capitalized on the powerplay, and even received a solid game in net from Gustavsson. [Matt Frattin](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/players/130845/matt-frattin?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com) finally broke out of his drought, and [Joe Colborne](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/players/108208/joe-colborne?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com) showed flashes. On top of all of that, [Joffrey Lupul](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/players/55006/joffrey-lupul?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com) added another 4 points in what could be turning into a career year. He's now tied for third in the NHL in scoring. Chris Johnson of the CP (courtesy of the G & M) [had this to say in his recap](http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/maple-leafs-pummel-capitals/article2242601/?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com):

> Lupul has far exceeded expectations since being acquired from Anaheim in a Feb. 9 trade. The 28-year-old sat out almost a full calendar year with back woes before returning to the [Ducks](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/teams/anaheim-ducks?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com) lineup in December 2010 and prospect [Jake Gardiner](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/players/130014/jake-gardiner?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com) was considered the real prize when Toronto acquired him and Lupul for [Francois Beauchemin](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/players/54518/francois-beauchemin?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com) a couple months later.

While losing Beauchemin hurt (and still does at times), it looks like the Leafs picked up two solid, younger contributors in that deal.
