It was announced today that the Toronto Maple Leafs have solved their roster problems in the most direct and simple way possible.

> The [@MapleLeafs](https://twitter.com/MapleLeafs?ref%5Fsrc=twsrc%5Etfw&ref=pensionplanpuppets.com) announced today that the hockey club has reduced its roster to 23 players (13 forwards, eight defencemen and two goaltenders).

Despite rumours they were trying to trade Connor Carrick, they have chosen to place him on waivers, along with two of the three goalies.

The move brings the Leafs to the 23-man roster they’ll need to be compliant for the start of the season. We’ll find out tomorrow whether all of these three players have cleared, or been claimed by another team.

Calvin Pickard looks set to become the Marlies starter if he’s not claimed, leaving Curtis McElhinney as the surplus player in the minor leagues if he remains on the team.

If Connor Carrick clears, it’s likely his trade value will go way up, as that will allow him to be placed directly in the minors by the acquiring team. This was the procedure the Leafs used last year at around this time to acquire Pickard even though they could have claimed him on waivers for nothing.
