### Toronto Maple Leafs @ Washington Capitals
05:00 PM at Capital One Arena
Watch on: TVAS, TSN4, MNMT

###

The Leafs last game was away on November 26 against the Columbus Blue Jackets, which Toronto won by a score of 2-1 in overtime. The Leafs have a record of 10-10-3 for a 0.500 Points %.

The Washington Capitals last played at home on November 26 against the Winnipeg Jets. The Capitals won by a score of 4-3 in regulation, and their current league record is 13-9-2 for a 0.583 Points %.

### Them

Washington has a "no one is bad" lineup. Their centre depth is laughable, their best players have more grey hair than I do, and no one on wing looks like a goal threat.

I know how they got so many points last year and it was mostly goaltending with a side order of shooting heaters.

This season, the Points % is weak, but they actually lead the east in goal differential and are tied for most goals scored with Carolina. They've likely had some goals come when they didn't need them and lost some close ones to keep them out of first place.

Once again, they are the true inheritor of the Sheldon Keefe Leafs in terms of their five-on-five results. They are top five in all relevant shot-based percentages. Top five in offensive rates, decent at the rate of shots against and mediocre bordering on bad at Expected Goals against.

Their power play has been terrible, however, with a very low rate of Expected Goals and a worse goal rate. They are hovering near the bottom of the league in goals scored on the power play even with Tom Wilson's prodigious talents at drawing penalties to give them more chances.

They also take a lot of penalties and their PK is as bad at allowing high quality shots as the team is at five-on-five. They allow a lot of goals against shorthanded with only average goaltending there.

The goalies as a tandem are very good, but not red hot like last year.

So, in general, the team is easier to score on than they were last year, but you need to defend at five-on-five against them or you're in trouble.
