### Toronto Maple Leafs @ Colorado Avalanche
10:00 PM at Ball Arena
Watch on: TVAS, SNO, ALT, KTVD

###

The Leafs last game was at home on January 10 against the Vancouver Canucks, which Toronto won by a score of 5-0 in regulation. The Leafs have a record of 22-15-7 for a 0.580 Points %.

The Colorado Avalanche last played at home on January 10 against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Avalanche won by a score of 4-0 in regulation, and their current league record is 33-4-7 for a 0.830 Points %.

### Them

I mean. What's to say? I could mention that goofy Points % or find that set of charts of every team's goal differential where Colorado's bleeds up into the next row and outdoes the team above them. I could talk about goals or win streaks or get into the idea that "Who is better, McDavid or MacKinnon?" is not an absurd question. Instead I'll list the things the Avs aren't the best at in the NHL:

- They're only second in five-on-five Corsi %
- They're way down in fourth in Expected Goals Against at five-on-five
- They're only eighth in all-situations Shooting %
- There is one team that allows fewer goals per 60 shorthanded

Okay joking aside, they do actually have one area where they don't excel. Their goal-scoring rate on the power play is 28th, and and a tenth of a point above the Leafs. This is not something you can partially blame on Shooting %, the way it is with the Leafs, they are actually bad on the power play and deserve that goal rate.

It's odd that this is true, but I bet they don't worry about it much.

Goalie Mackenzie Blackwood is on IR, so rookie Trent Miner has been recalled, and he is set to start tonight in his fourth appearance this year. He got his first win against Columbus on the weekend in the 4-0 shutout. He is a former WHL goalie and seventh round draft pick who has several years in the AHL in Colorado. He is almost 25, and will be highly motivated to have a breakout year, because it's pretty much now or never.

Scott Wedgewood is not 100%, so Miner has the game as long as he can hold up under the, does the math, over 4 goals per game the Avalanche have averaged this year.

Devon Toews and Gabriel Landeskog are both still injured. And yes, I'd forgotten Brent Burns played for this team now.
