"Why?" Because I said so. [Here's where you're going to start:](http://theleafsnation.com/2011/7/13/on-mike-zigomanis-and-the-quest-for-a-3-centre?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com) it's an article by Cam Charron at The Leafs Nation.

The issue with Zigomanis last season was his save percentage on-ice on the penalty kill was .800, so he was very unlucky in that regard last season. Coupled with a single assist, his visual statistics were pretty poor last season, even if his underlying numbers weren't. He didn't play much last season, but he had good [high-quality scoring chance](http://theleafsnation.com/2011/7/12/high-quality-scoring-chances-2010-11-at-even-strength?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com) numbers. [For a team lacking in depth at centre](http://theleafsnation.com/2011/7/6/the-unbearable-lightness-of-tyler-bozak?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com), with limited cheap options available, Zigomanis is a viable third-line candidate, who does all the little things right that the media love: he kills penalties, he's a 30-year old NHL veteran among the youngest team in the league, and [Don Cherry loves the guy](http://www.thestar.com/sports/hockey/nhl/mapleleafs/article/1024217--home-is-where-the-heart-is-for-leafs-zigomanis?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com).

Now, read.

David Johnson uses some numbers to tell us that Connolly is a legit top-line "C" if he's healthy. I guess that's what we're all expecting, anyway. Of course, we're not really expecting him to be very healthy.
