It is believed that the Leafs highest paid player, [Phil Kessel](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/players/54905/phil-kessel?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com) ($8 million), has a limited no-trade clause with eight acceptable suitors, according to [TSN and Bob McKenzie](http://www.tsn.ca/mckenzie-on-free-agents-trades-and-more-1.307528?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com).

The list, which was submitted prior to the deadline, is believed to include the [Montreal Canadiens](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/teams/montreal-canadiens?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com), [Philadelphia Flyers](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/teams/philadelphia-flyers?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com), [Pittsburgh Penguins](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/teams/pittsburgh-penguins?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com), [New York Rangers](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/teams/new-york-rangers?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com), and [Boston Bruins](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/teams/boston-bruins?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com) in the Eastern Conference as well as the [Chicago Blackhawks](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/teams/chicago-blackhawks?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com), [Los Angeles Kings](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/teams/los-angeles-kings?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com) and [Minnesota Wild](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/teams/minnesota-wild?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com) in the Western Conference, according to the report.

Earlier this week, Sportsnet's Damian Cox and Elliotte Friedman reported that the Leafs are listening to offers on a potentially groundbreaking move for Kessel prior to the draft.

Friedman reported that Toronto is "prepared" to trade Kessel, while Cox reported that the Leafs are [looking to potentially shake up the draft](http://www.thestar.com/sports/hockey/2015/06/12/maple-leafs-need-to-start-walking-the-walk-on-teardown-talk-cox.html?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com) by dealing one of the NHL's best scorers.

And while the list is prohibitive, any trade to move Kessel could be authorized by him in the event that another team makes a significant play. Amid earlier speculation, Kessel admitted in an interview that he wouldn't prohibit a trade if one were to be worked out.

In the last four NHL seasons, only [Claude Giroux](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/players/55015/claude-giroux?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com), [Evgeni Malkin](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/players/55425/evgeni-malkin?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com), [Sidney Crosby](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/players/55428/sidney-crosby?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com), [Alex Ovechkin](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/players/54337/alex-ovechkin?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com), and [John Tavares](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/players/72339/john-tavares?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com) have more points than Kessel's 275, making him one of the more significant assets on the market in quite some time.

In the event of a trade, Kessel's worth is likely that of what Jeff Carter's was - or more - when he fetched a young [Jakub Voracek](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/players/54951/jakub-voracek?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com) and a couple of top picks in a blockbuster deal with the [Columbus Blue Jackets](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/teams/columbus-blue-jackets?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com).
