For posterity, and because of some of the comments on this post:

> Auston Matthews confirms he tested positive for COVID-19
>
> Forced him off the ice for 2.5 weeks or so, but otherwise didn’t really hinder training
>
> Says he was pretty much symptom free

Amid reports in local Arizona media today of record-breaking positive tests for the Coronavirus, we now have a report that Auston Matthews has tested positive for COVID-19.

Maple Leafs superstar Auston Matthews has tested positive for the coronavirus COVID-19, two National Hockey League sources outside Toronto have confirmed to the Toronto Sun.

They confirm Matthews has been training at the Coyotes facility:

According to sources, a numbers of unidentified Arizona Coyotes players, who were training alongside Matthews, also tested positive recently. Players on other NHL teams have tested positive over the past few months. None have been identified publicly.

> Stunning: More than 20% of Arizona's COVID tests reported today came back positive.
>
> New York is down to around 1%.

As reported elsewhere in recent days, Frederik Andersen has returned to his usual offseason home in California. The Toronto Sun reports he has not tested positive, which I’ll note is not the same thing as saying he’s had a test and that test is negative.

#### UPDATE:

Chris Johnston has shared a statement sent to the media from the Toronto Maple Leafs. The team is following NHL protocol of not commenting on reports surrounding testing and states, “a person’s medical information in this regard is private.”

The NHL statement, which conforms to their new reporting system, and the Maple Leafs statement is not satisfying some:

> Basically if we can’t trust them to tell us if a player or players have tested positive or not, can we trust them to host 12 teams in our city? We are unclear if the NHL is permitted to reveal more under the terms of the CBA and the players’ contracts, so this might be simply a case of being upset with the transparency of an organization that has no other choice.
