Yesterday was debunk the myths day for the Maple Leafs as they had their first practice since opening with a back-to-back.

Myth one: Kirill Marchenko is a RW and OMG the Leafs are playing him on his offside.

[Why left-wing assignment is welcome return for Maple Leafs’ MarchenkoMuch has been made of Marchenko slotting in on the left side of the top line, in the spot formerly held by Matthew Knies, despite playing primarily as a right winger during his time in Columbus. But the shift to the left is, in fact, a return to Marchenko’s natural position, rather than an experiment.![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/34/01/3401a938-f468-4c02-a227-9bc4cc09bad4/content/images/icon/sn_favicon-d0ef266f-280c-4e86-93ae-60969ddf278d.ico)Sportsnet.caSonny Sachdeva![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/34/01/3401a938-f468-4c02-a227-9bc4cc09bad4/content/images/thumbnail/Marchenko-1d597552-0432-4d08-a2ab-6f7907cc772c.jpg)](https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/why-left-wing-assignment-is-welcome-return-for-maple-leafs-marchenko/?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com)

He said he played LW in Russia, and this is common for player to play opposite their handedness. The article above outlines some of the ways it makes the offensive game better.

Myth two: Sergei Bobrovsky is mean and the Leafs culture is so bad, so very bad.

> "I completely forgot. I came to him and told him so. So I pretended that it was my first game too." 😂
>

This one got wild with a Montreal Gazette columnist, who is getting confused about the line between fandom and covering a team, RTing a clickbaiter.

> This was unbelievable. Leafs goalie Sergei Bobrovsky couldn't let No. 1 overall draft pick Gavin McKenna have his own moment for his rookie skate. Something really wrong with that team culture. [https://t.co/peZq2GooyK](https://t.co/peZq2GooyK?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com)

Need a cheap apartment? You can live rent free in this guy's head.

Myth three: Gavin McKenna skipped morning skate because of swagger (or swag, as I'm hearing people put it if they don't actually know what words mean).

> Gavin McKenna on skipping Leafs optional skate Tuesday ahead of NHL debut:
>
> "I usually morning skate but with a back to back, it was my first game, I wanted to be rested. So, yeah, it wasn't a swagger thing (😃). It was just trying to keep my body fresh."[https://t.co/DosZTM4Rjo](https://t.co/DosZTM4Rjo?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com)

Gazette Guy: cover the Habs. The rest of you all: "I see what you did and it is, of course, morally wrong" is not a personality. Watch some hockey and relax.

I vote no on that clever scheme, in case anyone was wondering.

And the Marlies played their opener last night and did not win. It's a long way to the defence of the cup win, though. Many things can happen.

Have a great day and the preview will be out later this afternoon.
