In order to sign an 8-year deal with the New York Islanders, John Tavares had to have done that by midnight tonight. He can now sign a 7-year deal with whomever he likes.

If Lou’s snuck this one in under the wire, we’ll cry in the morning over it. We now know that didn’t happen. For now, all is well.
