Sweden

SHL

Carl Grundström

Frölunda began the week with an easy win in their quarterfinal Champions Hockey League match over Linköping. They won it 4-0 in front of at least 200 people at home in Gothenburg. No matter how hard they try, the CHL just does not appeal to Swedish hockey fans. Grundström had one assist on the fourth goal.

In regular SHL action, Frölunda played twice. They got shutout in the first game, on a night they just couldn’t solve the opposing goalie.

The second game on Saturday was goalies’ night off. The final score was 8-5 Frölunda, and in fact, all four goalies saw action. Grundström, playing down the lineup with the return of Johan Sundström, and in preparation for his exit for the WJC, had no share in the eight goals scored. Sundström had four assists, and as a right-shooting centre who never caught on with the Islanders after they drafted him, he is an interesting person the Leafs might want to look at. Particularly since they seem to make deals with the Islanders lately.

Allsvenskan

Jesper Lindgren

MODO had only one game this week, and the light workload suited them. They won it 2-1 over Timrå, Elias Pettersson’s team. Lindgren was pointless in the match.

Pierre Engvall

Mora IK won both their games this week, one in a convincing 5-3 fashion, and Engvall, while playing big minutes on the top line, had one assist. He seems mired in a scoring slump right now.

Russia

KHL

Vladimir Bobylyov

Bobylyov is back to being Bobylev and is back in the WHL. Read the details of his return to his junior team here. Look for future updates in the weekly CHL prospect report.

Yegor Korshkov

Korshkov was officially placed on the injured list to the end of January after breaking his leg. That is approximately three weeks before the end of the regular season.

MHL

Nikolai Chebykin

Chebykin played two games in the junior league and had a goal and one assist. It seems likely he will stay in the MHL for the rest of the season.

The European Prospects Report is going on hiatus along with the leagues. The SHL is on a break, the KHL has very few games scheduled, and the Leafs sole high-end prospect currently playing, Carl Grundström, will be coming to Canada for the WJC very soon.

PPP will cover his games for Team Sweden extensively, and this report will come back when he returns to play in Sweden.
