Maple Leafs are bringing the rookies to Ricoh

After years of going on the road to London, the Leafs’ rookie tournament is coming back to Toronto.

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today the dates and location of their annual rookie tournament.

While the Leafs have decided not to make this a roadshow in London this year, some things haven’t changed. The Habs are still invited. Why do we invite them? The third team this year is the Ottawa Senators.

The change in venue comes after well over a decade of the tournament being held in cities in southern Ontario outside Toronto. The last time the event was at the Ricoh Coliseum was 2006.

The games begin on Friday, September 8, and we’re telling you this now because tickets go on sale May 30.

Tickets will be available for purchase as a three-game package for as low as $30 (plus applicable taxes and fees) beginning Tuesday, May 30 at 10 a.m. on or by contacting a ticket service representative at 416-597-PUCK. Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Marlies season ticket members will have an opportunity to purchase ticket packages prior to the general on-sale through Account Manager starting Thursday, May 25. Individual game tickets will be available for purchase at a later date.

With a smaller tournament—last year’s also had the Pittsburgh Penguins in the mix—there are only two games with Leafs prospects and three games in total:

2017 Maple Leafs Rookie Tournament Schedule

Friday, September 8 7 p.m. Montreal vs. Toronto
Saturday, September 9 7 p.m. Ottawa vs. Montreal
Sunday, September 10 4 p.m. Toronto vs. Ottawa

Given the cut down size of the tournament, it’s not a surprise that ticket packages are cheaper. Last year the full package was $72, not the “as low as $30” advertised for this year. The usual discount for Leafs Nation fanclub members seems to be missing this year as well.
