Toronto Marlies cut players from camp, send nine to ECHL

Did Nikita Korostelev or Vladimir Bobylyov get a contract?

Peterborough Petes

Today the Toronto Marlies announced that nine players would be sent to their ECHL affiliate, the Orlando Solar Bears, and five players were released from their try out contracts.

You can read the Marlies press release here.

The following players were cut from their try-out contracts:

Jordan Caron, Mark Macmillan, Steven McParland, Marc-Olivier Roy, and Brandon Gormley.

Based on the names that were cut, the following players are my best guess at who’s heading to Orlando:

Matt Hackett, JJ Piccinich, Krisitan Pospisil, Matias Cleland, Jeff King, Aleksander Mikulovich, Mike Monfredo, Nolan Valleau.

There are two names missing that were cut: Vladimir Bobylyov and Nikita Korostelev. Both are still eligible to play in the CHL, and neither have been announced as signing a contract. If nine players were assigned to Orlando, one of these two are heading back to junior, and their teams would love to have them. We’ll update you on which goes where when we get some clarification - the press release only named players who were trying out and got cut.

Edited to add: We have clarification on one name. Korostelev will be heading back to the Peterborugh Petes. The assumptions should likely be that Bobylyov is just going back to the Victoria Royals too.

The Marlies received an influx of Leafs camp cuts, but here are the players remaining on the Marlies after these cuts.
