The program was shut down a decade ago, downgraded to a club program ostensibly due to budgetary considerations, which kicked off a hard-fought legal battle, spearheaded by former player Sylvia Bryson. The decision came down in favour of the women’s team over a year ago and they’ve been preparing for this past weekend ever since. The first two games of the season were both 2-1 losses in overtime (one in double overtime), which is a hell of a start for a new program. Bonus: [Kendra Woodland](https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/334964/kendra-woodland?ref=pensionplanpuppets.com), their starting goalie, who made 65 saves over 139 minutes of play this weekend, is a frosh. She was in net for Canada at the Women’s World Under-18 Championships this past January. With luck they’ll have her for at least four years of her five year eligibility. She’ll have some support too — her team gave as good as they got, making 63 shots of their own over the two games.
