If anything, today reminds us that the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to the future. The on-ice product at the NHL level must go on today, but it's not even close to being the finished project; more of a stop-gap out of necessity. Wins here and there are nice, but they're not necessarily the point.

But that isn't the case throughout the organization. The Marlies are having an incredible season. Beyond them, there are other prospects playing else, and that includes Frolunda forward Andreas Johnson.

Frolunda won the Champions Hockey League final, defeating Karpat 2-1 in the championship game. Johnson only had one shot on goal and didn't record any points in the game, but he did score three goals and 10 points through 12 games in the tournament, good for fourth in his team's scoring: and that's to go with the 37 points through 42 games the 21-year-old has through Frolunda's normal SHL season, tied second on his team.

Who knows how the NHL Leafs fare the rest of the season? (Who cares might even be a relevant question.) But Johnson? Johnson is doing very well - so here's to the future.
