The cuts from Marlies camp today were: defenders Eric Baier, and Chris Bradley, goaltenders Ryan Massa and Jay Williams, and forwards Patrick Watling, Denver Manderson, Connor Gaarder, and John McInnis.

Those are all expected or former Solar Bears players, and they move down south to join camp there.  They had a strange trip to Toronto this year, which we hope was fruitful for them.  Sheldon Keefe was busy coaching the remaining Leafs with Mike Babcock out west for the game tonight, so they got in two days of work with the assistants.  Keefe is slated to be behind the bench for the exhibition games, although Anthony Noreen, the Solar Bears coach has been around until now.

The two cut outright were Spencer Asuchak and Colin Martin, both of whom were on PTOs.

The stealthy cut from Leafs camp is Adam Brooks, who is on the roster that will go to Newfoundland to play the exhibition games that begin on October 6.

There will likely be more than three of those names on the Marlies roster this year, but not a lot more.  Most of the serious Marlies players, even those on AHL deals are still with the Leafs as they face three games in three days starting Thursday while these Marlies are out east.

It’s good that Adam Brooks will get some game time where he likely would not with the Leafs, but do not be surprised if he comes back from Newfoundland slated to keep going west to join his junior team for another year.  He might be next year’s zippy center on the Marlies that we can all marvel over.

The full roster with more details about each player is here.

UPDATE: This story originally noted Jon Jutzi was relieved from the Marlies training camp. We have been informed that he is in fact still with the team and the post now links to the corrected roster.
