After kicking off the month with some incredible play, William Nylander has been named the NHL’s “Rookie of the Month” for October.

Over the first nine games of the season Nylander has scored four goals of his own, while assisting on seven others. This places him in a six-way tie for second overall in points, while many of his assists have helped linemate Auston Matthews reach a tie for first overall in goals, and fellow winger Zach Hymen stay in peoples minds..

Nylander is driving the play for his line, and some kudos to him are much deserved after Auston Matthews held the spotlight away from many of his team mates to start the season.

In terms of rookie scoring Nylander is 1st overall, one point ahead of Auston Matthews in second and three ahead of Patrick Laine in third.

In what should be the first of many times this year, the Maple Leafs take home Rookie of the Month honours, congratulations Will Nye!

If Don Cherry is reading this, Nick Ritchie has three points in October.
