The Toronto Maple Leafs have recalled forward Trevor Moore from the Toronto Marlies. The move comes just minutes after the Marlies lost 7-6 to the Cleveland Monsters, in a game where Moore netted a goal and an assist. Moore, 23, has scored 8 goals and 4 assists in just 10 games this year, and he’s also been one of his team’s best penalty killers.

Moore was a significant part of his team’s Calder Cup Championship last year, as he notched 17 points in 20 playoff games. He’s shooting 26.7% this year, and while this clearly is not sustainable, he generates a ton of takeaways that result in extra offensive zone minutes for his linemates. He’s known as a workhorse, and it’s been quite clear this year that he’s NHL ready.

Here are a bunch of GIFs of him in action:

Moore will probably play in a depth role at the NHL level, but I could easily see him replacing a player like Connor Brown next year at a fraction of the price. He’s a left-shooting forward who can play on either wing, a regular penalty killer, and could also play in the middle of the 1-3-1 powerplay if needed.

The Leafs currently have 12 forwards on the roster, so it’s not clear if or when Moore will see NHL action. His ability to kill penalties, win the puck back for his teammates, and chip in goals could make him one of Babcock’s favourites.
