The NHL has a rule against other teams making any announcement during the Stanley Cup Finals, so they don’t take attention away from the games.

Which means with Game One approaching on May 28th, we can expect the Leafs to probably announce some more new contracts given out to players and Trusted Hockey Men for the front office sometime this weekend. They’ll save their biggest news for about 30 minutes after the Cup Finals are over, of course.

But let’s talk about the Toronto Marlies in the meantime.

With a 3-1 win last night, they sweep the conference finals vs the Phantoms and advance to the Calder Cup Finals for the first time since 2012 (when they won the West).

Want a blast from the past? Her are the top scorers for the Marlies those playoffs:

Philippe Dupuis, Matt Frattin, Jerry D’Amigo, Nicolas Deschamps, Jake Gardiner, Nazem Kadri, Joe Colborne. The team also featured the likes of Ben Scrivens in net, with Carter Ashton, Mark Fraser (he of fractured skull fame), David Broll, Stuart Percy, and Colton Orr for some reason...

Makes you wonder who, in 5-6 years time, we’ll look back on from this Marlies team with fond remembrance when they’re seasoned vets on the Leafs. Johnsson and Dermott are probably leading THAT charge.
