On a night where the Toronto Maple Leafs lost Game 5 against the Tampa Bay Lighting, the little siblings in the Leafs organization had a successful night.

Captain Logan Shaw scored twice and added an assist on the overtime winner as the Toronto Marlies beat the Utica Comets in a 6-5 thriller in Game 1 of their second round series. Semyon Der-Arguchintsev, Pontus Holmberg, and Topi Niemelä all scored in the Leafs win. Marc Johnstone got an assist and led the Marlies with six shots (tied with SDA). Keith Petruzzelli made 39 saves on 44 shots in the manic win.

Species will have a recap of the game out sometime today. Be sure to keep your eyes out for that.

Alternate captain and hometown boy Zach O'Brien also scored twice and added an assist in the Newfoundland Growlers 5-3 victory over the Adirondack Thunder in the second round of their ECHL series. Dryden McKay made 27 stops in the win, with Matt Hellickson, Zach Solow, and Jack Badini also scoring. Leafs prospects Mikko Kokkonen and Tommy Miller both got assists in the win. Pavel Gogolev, who was traded by the Leafs but broke his contract and signed back with the Newfoundland Growlers also got a point in the game.

Brigstew is going to post an analysis of the Leafs prospects currently in junior playoff tournaments a couple hours after this goes up. Be sure to give it a read. For an idea of which prospects are playing and when (especially on off-days for the Leafs) check out our prospect playoff schedules post (PPSP).

NHL Playoffs

Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 over Toronto Maple Leafs
TOR leads 3-2
Yeah the Leafs lost. It sucks, and now the dread of "now the Lightning have momentum so you know they'll win at home because there's no way the Leafs can win three road games, and then in game 7 anything can happen but then the Leafs would have lost two in a row so they'd be on the back foot and oh no it's happening again. AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!"

Round 1, Game 5 Recap: Lightning over Leafs
Andrei Vasilevskiy plays his best game of the playoffs to take the series back to Tampa Bay. The Maple Leafs can’t convert on their chances, and struggled, albeit a lot less, at what we used to call driving play. Auston Matthews tried his best, but he couldn’t do it twice in a row.

New Jersey Devils 4-0 over New York Rangers
NJD leads 3-2

Someone finally won at home in this series! This time it was the Devils blanking the Rangers. Erik Haula scored twice and Akira Schmid got his second career shutout ever.

Recap: Rangers Hit Rock Bottom, Keep Digging; Lose 4-0
The Devils win their third straight and it wasn’t even close.

The Vegas Golden Knights with a 4-1 stomping of the Winnipeg Jets are the first team to step into the second round this year.

Various Leafs and Branches

Rodion Amirov posted on Instagram for the first time in a long time, this post a selfie with his mom and doggo. [Instagram]

Okay, a little on the nose, Beaverton.

Read MLHS's article on what to do with Michael Bunting (not beat him with a baseball bat, Seldo). The Leafs should know they need to control more of the play in the first half of the game the rest of the way.

This was a cool story from Taylor Baird with the Dallas Stars S/O's. There's been a lot of talk around playoff jackets, especially since most teams' S/O's have come up with some pretty boring ones. The Stars outfits are the best of the bunch.
