Fresh off the reacquisition of T.J. Brennan from the Blackhawks, the Leafs acquired another now-former Chicago defensemen, claiming well-travelled defensemen Tim Erixon off waivers.

Erixon has bounced between Calgary, New York, Columbus and Chicago since he was drafted 23rd overall in 2009 by the Flames.

In 27 games this season with the Blue Jackets and Blackhawks, the 24-year-old defensemen has six points. Last year, with Columbus' affiliate, the Springfield Falcons, Erixon was among the AHL's highest scoring defensemen, with 38 points in 40 games, behind only Brennan in points per game for defenders.

Down the stretch, he gives the Leafs another option on the backend, potentially slotting in ahead of the likes of Petter Granberg and Korbinian Holzer on the depth chart.

Erixon becomes an RFA at the conclusion of the 2014-2015 season.
