Rookie defender Travis Dermott has impressed with his skating and smarts ever since getting the call up to the Leafs.  Now he has his first goal, and it was a mighty fine one.

It starts with an aggressive rush by Dermott, then a takeaway to get the puck back, and then a dandy give and go with William Nylander.  Just a damn fine goal from a defender who knows when to jump into the rush.

Even better, since the Leafs’ dads are on hand to watch the game, Dermott’s father got to see his son’s first NHL goal live.

EVERYONE IS EXCITED.

Nice to note Auston Matthews grabbed the puck for Dermott.

The goal put the Leafs up 4-0, after almost two full periods in which they gleefully demolished the Islanders.  I’ll tell you: injuries or no, I think Travis Dermott is going to stick around.
