Jon Jutzi was an invitee to the Maple Leafs development camp that was held in Niagara Falls at the beginning of July. He must have made an impression there because after being invited to the rookie tournament set for September, he was signed to an AHL contract with the Toronto Marlies this afternoon.

Jutzi spent the past four season with the NCAA Minnesota State University, Mankato (Go MSUM!) and played six games with the Manitoba Moose last season after his time in university expired.

Over his NCAA career he collected 44 points in 144 games, while winning two WCHA championships and being named to the WCHA All Academic Team.

He’ll most likely be joining Maple Leafs camp as well after the rookie tournament, thanks to the World Cup of Hockey nabbing quite a few players out of camp. Marlies camp will be his biggest test yet, as he’ll fight for space in a crowded back end.
